Elementary School Information

As a part of the program, your center/school can participate in preschool teacher visits to an elementary school in the fall and preschool class visits to an elementary school in the spring. Consider contacting the Lead Kindergarten Teacher at any school you would like to work with to encourage them to complete an Elementary School Application. Transition Program Activity Options:

Preschool Teacher Visits to Kindergarten

November 8th-30th, preschool teachers are invited to visit an elementary school without their class. Teachers are able to tour the school, observe kindergarten classrooms in action, and speak to kindergarten teacher about beginning of school expectations and routines.

Ø  Visits will be approx. 1 ½ hours.

Ø  School to be visited and date options will be determined after acceptance in to the program.

Transition to Kindergarten Workshop Series

Participating staff may attend part or all of a series of workshops offered on issues involved in the transition to kindergarten. The workshops will be held at Project Enlightenment. Free classroom materials are included at each session and renewal / daycare credit will be given.

Ø  A workshop registration form for the workshop series is at the end of this application. Make copies as needed. Completed registration forms should be included with your application.

Ø  Note: The workshop “It’s in the Bag” is REQUIRED in order to receive readiness bags for the children in your center/school. Please complete a workshop registration form for staff who will attend “It’s in the Bag”.

Preschooler Visits to Kindergarten

Preschoolers who are eligible for kindergarten in the 2008-09 school year visit kindergarten classrooms with their preschool teachers. Preschoolers will be given the opportunity to interact with kindergartners in their classroom during the visit. Visits may also include playground time and a tour of the school. Each child receives a readiness tote bag to take home (with the exception of More at 4 children). The bag contains items such as playdoh, crayons, scissors, glue, pencil, trade book, book of readiness activities, and an All About Me document.

Ø  Visits will take place in late April or May, for approx. 1 ½ hour each.

Ø  Completion of evaluation information will be required.

Ø  This activity is for children and staff only – parents should not attend.

Ø  Plan to send staff to assemble and take readiness bags for your 4 year olds. See workshop registration form for dates and times.

In order to participate in the Transition to Kindergarten Program, childcare centers/preschools are required to host elementary school staff visits to your site. Please complete the information below to indicate when you are able to host this activity.

Kindergarten Teacher Visits to Preschool

Elementary school staff visit area preschool and childcare classrooms to tour and observe classroom routines and expectations. Visits take place in April/ May.
