Crayons to Classrooms - First Teacher Shopping Day 2014-2015 School Year

Dayton’s Crayons to Classrooms (DC2C), a free store for teachers is pleased to announce they will be opening their doors for the new school year beginning Wednesday, August 6, 2014.

Research shows that teachers spend between $500 and $1000 out of their own pocket on school supplies each year. DC2C receives supplies and monetary donations from generous individuals and corporations to help relieve teachers of some of that burden. Since their opening January 2009, theyhave distributed over 5 million dollars in school supplies to teachers of students in need.

Teachers greatly appreciate this support.“Crayons to Classrooms has provided a wonderful opportunity for me and for the students in my room. This organization has provided me with supplies that have allowed me to go above and beyond for my students. Many of them come to school without school supplies so it's nice to have someone to help provide much needed supplies.” ~ Joey Fultz, Kemp PreK-8 School

In order to shop, educators must be a certified teacher at one of the DC2C “eligible” schools. Eligible schools have at least 70% or more of their students qualifying for the USDA’s National School Lunch Program. Eight new preK-12 schools will be added to their service roster this year, bringing the total number of schools served to seventy-two. For a list of all eligible schools, please see their website at

DC2C is open August through May and certified teachers at “eligible” schools can shop for free two times per year (once each semester). DC2C’s teacher free store is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:00-6:00pm. Eligible teachers must register in advance to shop.

“We are looking forward to our opening day and are privileged to be able to continue to serve the teachers and students of the Miami Valley area this year,”said Danielle Dabbs, Program Manager of Crayons to Classrooms.
