Application Details

1.  Introduction

In order to recognize the commitment and contribution of youth volunteers towards society, the Steering Committee on Promotion of Volunteer Service (the Steering Committee) of the Social Welfare Department organizes the 2015-16 Hong Kong Outstanding Youth Volunteers Scheme (the Scheme). The Committee aims to select 20 outstanding youth volunteers. The selected volunteers will participate in the promotional work on volunteering in Hong Kong and exchange their volunteer experiences with people outside Hong Kong.

2.  Objectives

2.1   To commend the youth for their contribution and commitment on volunteering;

2.2   To provide an opportunity to the outstanding youth volunteers to gain global perspective;

2.3   To encourage young people to be ambassadors helping in the promotion of youth volunteering.

3.  Targets candidates

Youth volunteers aged between 16 and 24, with right of abode in Hong Kong, who are devoted to serve the community and contribute to the promotion of volunteering. Successful applicants are required to assist the Steering Committee to promote volunteering in subsequent two years. Applicants will be grouped into two groups according to their age and a total of 20 youth volunteers will be selected. The selected youth volunteers will become the candidates of the Scheme to receive training. Those who have satisfactory overall performance will be awarded and become the Hong Kong Outstanding Youth Volunteers.

4.  Rules and conditions

4.1 / Applicants will be grouped according to their age (as at deadline of application). Applicants aged 16-19 are under Group 1 and aged 20-24 are under Group 2.
4.2 / Applicants should possess extensive experiences in volunteer services, with no less than three years of volunteer experiences and a total of 200 service hours in the past 5 years.
4.3 / Applicants should be able to communicate in Cantonese, Putonghua and English.
4.4 / Applicants should obtain recommendation from their service organizations, schools or institutions. The referee should certify the applicant’s volunteer services record by completing the reference section in the application form.
4.5 / Applicants should download the application form from Volunteer Movement Website at www.volunteering-hk.org/youth15 and complete all items in the form and send the completed form with one extra copy to the Central Office for Volunteer Service.
4.6 / Copies of documents/certificate/awards are not required to be submitted with the application form. Applicants should submit the true copy and provide photocopy of all documents mentioned in the application form after he/she is selected as the candidates of the Scheme. The selected youth volunteers will be disqualified when the organizer find to have discrepancy between the reported information and submitted documents.
4.7 / Deadline for application: 21 May 2015 (Thursday).
4.8 / Date of interview: (tentative)
1st round : 27 June 2015( Saturday) 9am-6pm
2nd round : 4 July 2015(Saturday) 1pm-6pm
The interview will be organized in group. Applicant should reserve the above time for interview. Should the applicant fail to attend the interview scheduled by the organizer, he/she will be regarded as self-withdrawal.
4.9 / Applicant should provide valid e-mail address and correspondence address as the organizer will contact the applicants through both means. Applicants who are invited for interview will be notified one week before the date of interview through email address and correspondence address.

5 Selection

5.1 / Interview will be conducted by the adjudication panel to select 20 youth volunteers with outstanding performance in volunteer services.
5.2 / Organizer will give special consideration to those applicants who have special upbringing or background but demonstrate positive change after committed in volunteering.
5.3 / Adjudication panel (to be confirmed) will be composed of members from Steering Committee on Promotion of Volunteer Services, Lecturers, Principals, experience social workers and renowned persons.
5.4 / Selected youth volunteers will become the candidates of the Scheme. He/she need to receive training from August 2015 onwards and attend the exchange tour to be arranged by the organizer in December 2015. Only those who have satisfactory overall performance will be awarded the certificates and become the Hong Kong Outstanding Youth Volunteers.

6.  Remarks

6.1 / Successful youth volunteers should attend all training held by the organizer, including the overnight camp held on 21-23 August 2015. If the successful youth volunteers failed to attend 80% of the training or the performance during the training period is far from satisfactory, he/she may not be arranged to join the exchange tour held in December 2015. The youth volunteers are required to submit a report on the training and exchange tour one month after the trip. The selected youth volunteers are required to report and share their exposure to the organizers if necessary.
6.2 / The Successful youth volunteers should complete all the training and attend the exchange tour. Only those who have satisfactory overall performance will be awarded the certificates and become the Hong Kong Outstanding Youth Volunteers.
6.3 / The Successful youth volunteers are required to assist the Steering Committee to promote volunteering in subsequent two years.
6.4 / After being awarded as the Hong Kong Outstanding Youth Volunteers, he/she will be invited to join as a the member of "Hong Kong Outstanding Youth Volunteers' Association ( the Association) and assist to the Association to promote volunteering
6.5 / The organizer reserves the right on selection of applicants, and the right to amend any of the rules and regulations of the Scheme without prior notification.
6.6 / The dates indicated in this document may subject to changes. For any changes, the organizer will inform applicants separately.
6.7 / The organizer reserves the right to alter the arrangements for the Scheme without prior notification.
6.8 / The personal data provided by the applicants will be used for processing of the application of this Scheme only. Applicants have the right of access and correction with respect to personal data as provided in the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. Applicants’ rights of access include the rights to obtain copies of their personal data provided. The personal data that provided would be used for verification and contact between applicants and the Social Welfare Department only. The information will be destroyed after six months of result announcement.
