UCBA Orientation Intern Position

One candidate will be selected to serve in the UCBA Orientation Intern position. The Orientation Intern will work closely with the Student Life office to plan and implement the Student Orientation Leaders (SOL) program, orientation program, and convocation program. The Intern will serve as a peer consultant SOLs. They will assist with promotion, selection, and hiring of SOLs. They will also develop and facilitate components of SOL training. During the summer, the intern will supervise the work of SOLs by shadowing campus tours and small group facilitations, aiding in the academic advising labs, and providing constructive feedback to improve SOL performance.

The Orientation Intern will assist in creating and coordinating the orientation and convocation programs. The Intern will collaborate with Orientation Coordinator in developing the program agenda, content, and structure for each of these programs. The Intern will communicate with various campus partners, participate in committee meetings, and develop components of the orientation program that meet competing demands. They will assist in designing and presenting information to new students and their guests during the summer programs.

ORIENTATION INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES

Office Hours and Weekly Meetings: Commit to 12-15 hours per week between January and May as outlined in the availability form. Included in these office hours will be weekly meetings with the Orientation Coordinator and SOL selection, as outlined below:

SOL Selection: Must be available for SOL interview sessions – a total of 15 hours during February 13-22 and a total of 8 hours during March 4-8. Must be available for peer mentor selection meetings in February and March; will then inform peer mentors of their selection.

SOL Training: Assist in developing four training sessions for SOLs during office hours. Must attend and facilitate all training sessions. Engage with campus partners to create training sessions. Interact with peers and provide constructive feedback for their practice.

Orientation: Attend all summer orientation sessions in May, June, July, and August. During each orientation session, the Intern will provide support to SOLs during orientation set-up, check-in, campus tours, advising and registration, and the family transition program. The Intern will present opening information to orientation groups, will support SOLs during sessions, and will troubleshoot immediate concerns.

Convocation: Collaborate with Student Life professional staff to develop engaging curriculum for New Student Convocation. Assist with publicizing new student convocation opportunity. Create and facilitate convocation training for SOLs. Serve as facilitators during New Student Convocation in late August. The Intern will provide guidance and support to SOLs and new students during New Student Convocation.

·  Formerly served as Peer Mentor/SOL

·  Commit to 12-15 office hours per week between January through May

·  UC Blue Ash student experience (completed at least 15 credit hours at UC Blue Ash College)

·  GPA of at least 3.0
