Terms of Reference – LGBT+ Staff Network Group
Nottingham Trent University welcomes and values diversity and, as part of our commitment to promoting equality, we have set up an LGBT+ Staff Network.
The aims of the Network are to:
- Promote positive attitudes towards LGBT+ members of the community and raise awareness of LGBT+ equality.
- Bring togetherLGBT+ staffin a supportive environment to network, share experiences and offer support and information.
- Give a voice to the NTU LGBT+ community enabling dialogue with all levels of the university.
- Contribute, as appropriate, to NTU policy development and review through formal consultation mechanisms by providing structured and informed feedback.
- Liaise both internally and externally with key groups and individuals to support the aims of the Network.
Values Statement:
The LGBT+ Network is an inclusive and open group of professional colleagues. The group is underpinned by a shared commitment to the values of informed engagement, positive representation and the treatment of individuals and groups with dignity and respect. We welcome and celebrate the diversity of our membership and we are proud of our histories and cultures.
Membership
Steering Group
The Steering Group is comprised of committed staff from across the university and is responsible for guiding the direction and activities of the Network, working in partnership with the Equality, Diversity & InclusionTeam.
Membershipis open to LGBT+ staff and will change on an annual basis following elections.
Staff Network
- Full membership – For staff who are keen to be involved in the work of the Network, attend meetings and events, and receive updates and information via either a confidential mailing list or an open mailing list.
This membership is open to LGBT+ staff.
- Associate/Ally membership– For staff who are keen to support the work of the Network and attend meetings and events by invitation and receive non-confidential updates and information.
This membership is open to all staff who share the values of the Network.
Meetings
- The Network will usually meet formally four times per year.
- The Networkmayholdone or two eventsper year.
- Members can use up to 8 hours of their standard working time to participate in Network meetings/activities/consultations.
- Steering group members can use up to 12 hours of their standard working time to organise and/or participate in Network or Steering Group meetings/activities/consultations.
Members will need to liaise with their Line Manager to ensure timespent participating in meetings/activities/consultation can be managed alongside the requirements of their substantive role.
