GENERAL EXPECTATIONS: READY, RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE
Academic Honesty: The Pioneer Central High School policy will be adhered to in all cases of academic misconduct. Plagiarism is a serious offense. All work is expected to be your own, original undertaking. Using another’s work, with or without their permission and attempting to pass it off as your own is never permitted and will be severely penalized. (Consequences for academic dishonesty will be given consistent with the Code of Conduct).
Statement Regarding StudentConduct: Preparing to become a graduate of Pioneer involves more than academic preparation in the classroom. Every day you need to demonstrate positive attitudes and behaviors that are consistent with our Code of Conduct. All adults in our school will be watching to see that you are developing appropriate behavior and will provide you with feedback on your journey toward becoming world-class citizens.
Class Attendance and Active Participation:Class participation and attendance is required. If you are deemed an agricultural facility safety hazard, you will be removed from the class or given alternative work to complete.
Student Submissions of required work: All projects must be submitted in a timely manner. For those that refuse to complete work on time and use class time inappropriately will be docked points.
GRADING
There will be no homework assigned in this class. Occasionally, if students do not use their time wisely in class, they will be expected to complete work outside of class. Grading will be completed on a total points scale, the distribution of percentage of classwork completed is as follows:
HOW* Grade: 30%
Projects: 35%
Safety Tests: 10%
Worksheets: 10%
Progressive Improvement of Skill: 15%
HOW: Habit of Work Grade. There are 25 Points possible for each week (5 points for each day). If a student has an unexcused absence, they are automatically deducted 5 points from the week for every day absent. Students start off the week with full points, but will lose a point each time they are unprepared (includes inappropriate clothing), have to be spoken to, are behaving in an inappropriate manner, or otherwise disrupting the learning of themselves or others. This is an effective way to increase attendance and hold students responsible for their actions.
MAJOR LEARNING ACTIVITIES AND PROJECTS(there may be more or less assignments given at the teacher’s discretion):
The assignments will be carried out as follows:
-Shop Safety (1-2 weeks)
-Shielded Metal Arc Welding (5 weeks)
-Oxy-Acetylene (3 weeks)
-Metal Inert Gas Welding (3 weeks)
-Metal Properties (2 weeks)
-Out of Position Welding (2 weeks)
-Student-Based Projects (Time remaining)
The due date on all projects are student-based, as it depends on how quickly they work, therefore, it is almost impossible to determine when projects will be assigned, and when they will be due. Students will be given deadlines as deemed appropriate.
MISCELLANEOUS:
Students are responsible for making up missed work when absent. I will not remind them, they must approach me. Periodically I will review their grades with them. I am afterschool most days, so availability is not an issue for me as far as being able to do missed work or for extra help, therefore, NO EXTRA CREDIT WILL BE GIVEN. If assignments are late, there will be a 10 point penalty for every school day late.
