  1. CALL TO ORDER
    Dr. Burrell, chairman, called the meeting to order at 6:32PM as a regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education.

II.RECOGNITION OF GUESTS
A. Darla Williams, language arts teacher at NorwoodMiddle School, informed the board of a 10-day trip to France next summer. So far, eight students are considering the trip which is for students in 8th grade and older. The cost will be $3500 per person and all funds will behandled between the student and travel company. Motion by Glenda Langenberg and seconded by Greg Crawford to approve the trip to France in 2011. Motion carried.

ANDERSONCOUNTYBOARD OF EDUCATION

A BOARD RESOLUTION

HONORING NORRISMIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER SUSAN SILVEY

WHEREAS, the responsibilities of our educatorsinclude various duties, some challenging, others exciting, all worthwhile; and, from time to time, those teachers go above and beyond the call of duty; and

WHEREAS, Norris Middle School teacher Susan Silvey performed the Heimlich Maneuver three times on a seventh-grade student who was choking during TCAP testing on April 19, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Silvey’s calm efficiency successfully removed the obstruction, to the joy and relief of the student and his classmates; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Education joins the people of Anderson County in recognizing her heroic, lifesaving action and does hereby take this small means to express appreciation to Ms. Silvey;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that by this resolution we extend to Susan Silvey our heartfelt thanks for her valuable contribution to the welfare of the NorrisMiddle School student body.

ADOPTED WHOLEHEARTEDLY AND UNANIMOUSLY BY THE ELECTED SCHOOL BOARD OF ANDERSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE, ON THE 10th DAY OF JUNE, TWO THOUSAND AND TEN.

  1. Judge Brandon Fisheraddressed the board to express his support for their role in assuming the Access Breakawaygrant. He said he appreciates the open communication between the court system and Anderson County Schools.

VI.COMMENTS FROM THE CHAIR

  1. Dr. Burrell described Joint Venture, held in Pigeon Forge May 26 & 27, as a good session where the board reviewed the 5-yr plan, budget, and future goals including a special education academy. He reported TSBA gave an update on No Child Left Behind and a briefing on Race to the Top. The board also reviewed their self-evaluation. He said they discussed the director of schools’ evaluation and added the form is still something of a struggle and they are not satisfied withthe instrument. He said the next step is to form a committee to review all ideasand assemble an evaluation instrument to be used in the future. Dr. Burrell asked Jo Williams, Strategic Evaluation committee chair, to go forward and begin working on an evaluation form for next year.

VII. DIRECTOR’S REPORT
A. Wanda McCrosky described the Race to the Top Summitshe, Denise Wilburn, Chuck Puglisi, andLarry Foster attended in Nashville. Mr. Foster added educators, Board of Education members, SCORE representatives, and industry representatives attended as well. Denise Wilburn said the budget still has to be finalizedand one job description added before the proposal is submitted.

  1. B. Mr. Foster introduced new administrative personnel. Matt Bradburn, HR, will be on board July 1. Renita Dodson is our Federal Projects Director also starting on July 1. He also said a potential ClintonHigh School principal was interviewed this week. Eric Snider has 14 years experience and is the current assistant principal and Freshman Academy principal in South Carolina. Mr. Foster said he hopes Mr. Snider accepts the offer.

  1. VIII. STUDENT SERVICES REPORT

The Student Services report was approved as presented. Dr. Burrell asked about starting enrollment and the capacity of the LearnCenter. Terri Ferry said she thought starting enrollment was 86. Mr. Foster said 160 is capacity. Jo Williams stated 30 students graduated this year so that frees up some space.
IX.COMMITTEE REPORTS

A. TLN notes – Wanda McCrosky advised the board that the random drug testing policy passed.

B. Policy Committee – second reading (copy of policy follows)




Motion by Jo Williams and seconded by Greg Crawford to approve policy 6.313Disciplinary Procedures on second reading. Motion carried.
X. ACTION ITEMS
A. Motion byJo Williams and seconded byPeggyHayes to approve the ClintonHigh School and AndersonCountyHigh Schoolfee structurefor 2010-2011. Motion carried.

B. Motion byDailCantrell and seconded by Greg Crawford to approve the Code of Student Conduct on second reading. Motion carried.

C. Motion byDail Cantrell and seconded by both Wanda McCrosky and Rickey Roseto approve the delay of start time on second reading. Motion carried.

D. Motion byJo Williams and seconded unanimously by the boardof education to approve the submittal of Wanda McCrosky’s nomination to TSBA for the East District seat on the TSBA Board. She would also like to apply for treasurer. Motion carried.

E. Motion by WandaMcCrosky and seconded byGregCrawford to approve the list of tenured teachers as presented. Motion carried.
