Changes in objectively-measured physical activity and sedentary behavior among bariatric surgery PATENTS

The aim of this study is to conduct a pilot study examining the practicality and validity of using accelerometers to capture physical activity and sedentary behavior among bariatric surgery patients in both a clinic-based setting and a free-living environment.

Impact of Bariatric Surgery on Total Joint Arthroplasty (Multi-Center Trial)

The goals of this multicenter trial is to test the hypothesis that bariatric surgery prior to total joint arthroplasty will improve outcomes in patients with extreme obesity. We will compare long-term weight, physical function, mobility, indices of joint function, and quality of life in patients who receive bariatric surgery ~ 1 year before total joint arthroplasty vs. control subjects who receive total joint arthroplasty in the absence of pre-arthroplasty bariatric surgery.
