Lil’ Capable was slow out. Soon after the start Little Chili, Crimson Trend and Beautiful Bella bumped. Approaching the first turn Beautiful Bella, Crimson Trend and Little Chili bumped. At the same time Kalaway Ernie crossed to the rails, checking Miss Floss. On the first turn Miss Floss, Little Chili and Crimson Trend bumped, checking Miss Floss and Little Chili. On the second turn Kawasaki Rose checked off the heels of Lil’ Capable. On the home turn Beautiful Bella and Kalaway Crusty bumped. In the home straight Beautiful Bella and Kalaway Crusty bumped.

Approaching the winning post Proven Salsa and Sandy’s Pick bumped. Winklea Lilly underwent a post race veterinary examination and no apparent injury could be detected. Adam’s Flash was a late scratching at 6:20pm by reason of weight variation pursuant to GAR 39(3). Adam’s Flash has been stood down from racing for a period of 10 days and trainer Mr B Adams was subsequently fined the sum of $50. The all clear in this event was delayed due to a bird being on the track at the second turn. After viewing the official replays stewards determinedthat no runners were disadvantaged and subsequently the all clear was given on the judge’s numbers. Soon after the start Miss Astro and Mar Mac bumped. At the same time Natural Eight and Rogue Trader bumped. Approaching the first turn Mar Mac, Natural Eight and Captain Cosmic bumped, checking Natural Eight and as a result Mar Mac, Natural Eight, Rogue Trader and Miss Astro bumped, checking Natural Eight, Rogue Trader and Miss Astro. On the home turn Rogue Trader and Mar Mac bumped, severely checking Mar Mac who fell. Mar Mac underwent a post race veterinary examination and no apparent injury could be detected.

This event was hand started. Jay Dee Fortune was slow out. Soon after the start Hellyeah Oliver and Alvin Benz bumped, checking Hellyeah Oliver. On the first turn Champagne Girl checked off the heels of Camdale Libby. On the third turn Champagne Girl and Alvin Benz bumped, checking Champagne Girl and Lucias Cain. On the home turn Lucias Cain and Jay Dee Fortune bumped, checking Jay Dee Fortune. Entering the home straight Hellyeah Oliver and Camdale Libby bumped. Approaching the winning post Alvin Benz and Gemstone Jack bumped and as a result Hellyeah Oliver galloped on the heels of Gemstone Jack. Alvin Benz underwent a post race veterinary examination and was found to have a broken toe nail on its right front foot. Alvin Benz has been stood down from racing for a period of 14 days. Stewards spoke to trainer Mr B Crawford in relation to the racing manner of Alvin Benz over the concluding stages where it appeared that the greyhound had lost momentum when taking a run between Gemstone Jack and Sonorous. Acting on their own observations, viewing the official replays and taking evidence from Mr Crawford, stewards accepted the 14 day injury of Alvin Benz and took no further action, however advised Mr Crawford that stewards will closely monitor the racing manner of Alvin Benz in future events. A post race swab sample was taken from Alvin Benz the winner of the event.

RACE 7 – Tattsbet Never Sleeps Grade 5 (2) 515M

The start of this event was delayed two minutes due to Canberra Harness, Race 8 running behind schedule. Soon after the start Mental As Ben, Rock Royalty and Hard As Nails bumped, checking Rock Royalty and Mental As Ben. On the first turn Seacraft, Draft Pick and Mental As Ben bumped. On the second turn Draft Pick checked off the heels of Mental As Ben and as a result Draft Pick bumped with Rock Royalty. Entering the back straight Ukulele Jack and Hard As Nails bumped. On the home turn Hard As Nails and Mental As Ben bumped. At the same time Seacraft marred the running of Winklea Sam. Draft Pick raced wide in the home straight. Seacraft underwent a post race veterinary examination and no apparent injury could be detected. Stewards spoke to trainer representative Mr WLinnett in relation to the racing manner of Seacraft around the home turn. Acting on their own observations, viewing the official replays and taking evidence from Mr Linnett, stewards were of the opinion that Seacraft had made head or muzzle contact with Winklea Sam around the home turn and by doing so had marred the running of this greyhound pursuant to GAR 69(1). Acting on the provisions of GAR 69(2)(a) Seacraft has been stood down from racing for a period of 28 days, Launceston only, and until the completion of a satisfactory trial.

GENERAL

Classic Nikko completed a steward’s satisfactory trial as it was stood down from the Hobart Greyhound Racing Club meeting on the 2nd January 2014 for failing to pursue the lure with due commitment throughout the event pursuant to GAR 69A(1). Weighing 28.1 kilos and beginning from box 3, Classic Nikko completed the 515 metre trial distance in a time of 31.35. Classic Nikko has not been cleared to race as it did not run the required qualifying time.
