Arts Project Manager

Fixed Term, part-time, freelance contract

Term:April – July 2018

Fee: £4,800

Location:Chalkwell Hall, Southend on Sea

Metal is looking for an experienced, part-time, freelance Project Manager who can help deliver two exciting current projects.

Processions:

Processions is a national project produced by Artichoke and Commissioned by 14-18 Now, based on an idea by creative director Darrell Vydelingum. The event is made up of four outdoor, mass participation artworks or processions that will take place simultaneously in London, Belfast, Edinburgh and Cardiff on 10 June 2018. Metal is one of 100 Partner Organisations who are hosting a programme of banner-making workshops by bringing together our commissioned artist and a number of participant groups to create one banner to be presented in London.

Decorum:

Decorum is an intergenerational theatre and film project that has been conceived and produced by Magic Me. Metal is the regional partner for the London-based Magic Me and is working on the project from both our Southend and Peterborough Sites. This role will be focused on delivering the project for Southend. Led by professional artists the project will stimulate conversation and creative responses to the theme of Decorum in the C21st and looks to bring forward the voices of women. Through workshops, women of different generations will share the behaviour they have been taught, what they have inherited and the rules they either obey or refuse to follow.

About the Role

You will work within a small, friendly team at Metal and lead on the following aspects of both projects:-

  • Continuing the recruiting and ensuring ongoing participation of the participants for each project.
  • Maintain relationships with the key community partners for both projects – in some cases seeking these out and setting them up to take part.
  • To communicate regularly with key delivery partners for both projects – as well as the Metal staff team to ensure the smooth running of the project and to report any areas of concern to Metal promptly.
  • To attend each workshop session for both projects where possible. Or to ensure a stand-in member of the Metal team can do so on occasions when you cannot. Please note that some of these sessions are likely to be in the evenings and at weekends.
  • Book and set up venues for all project sessions and meetings – including arranging for any tech, AV and/or materials required.
  • Liaise with the appointed lead artists for both projects – and with any assistants or other team members (including possible volunteers) who may be recruited to help with the project.
  • To assist with marketing and promoting the project – both at recruitment stage – and for the final performances, working with the staff team at Metal.
  • To support the monitoring and evaluation of both projects by collecting data and feedback as required.
  • Keep accurate budgets and timetables for the successful delivery of both projects on time and within budget.

Both projects are already underway, with some aspects of the recruitment and workshops already begun. We are looking for an experienced project manager with a high standard of delivery and experience of working with people from all walks of life and of all ages. You will need to have the ability to hit the ground running to ensure a timely and smooth hand-over of the project to ensure there is no interruption to the delivery timescales.

We require someone who can demonstrate credibility and trust with a range of partners and believes art is essential for individuals and places to thrive.

This is a fixed term, part-time, freelance contract from April to July (16 weeks).

We estimate that it will require 32 days across that time period.

The fixed fee is £4,800
