FRIDAY NEWSLETTER

Dear Families,

We finished investigation” How do we take care of our clothes?”. On our return to school, Mr. Hogan came in to talk about ties. He shared special ties from his private collection that had sentimental meaning. Especially his purple tie that he wore on his wedding day. Another one of his favorites ties has cow figures on it. The children learned that we wear ties to work and parties. Mr. Hogan told the children he learned to tie a tie at school where he had to wear a school uniform. Mr. Hogan demostrated tying a tie with each child independently, and he also pointed out that different ties were made from different fabric. The children were able touch the texture of the ties and found some felt smooth, soft like silk, others felt rough and scratchy like wool.

The children were inspired by the beautiful tie fabrics and sketched their own designs .

The children were cleaning the soiled clothes and hanging them out to dry.

We practice sewing buttons on sock puppets.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS: On Monday, Jan. 19th, Luther turned 5 and Jonah turned 5 on Wednesday, Jan. 22nd. Thank you for sharing your yummy treats.

We ended the week walking to the local laundromat. The children were able to observe people using the washers and dryers. We brought a few pieces of wet clothing to practice using the dryer. It was a nice experience to share time with our local merchants. Stop by the front door bulletin to view their observational sketches.

Reminders: Yuvraj’s family will be our snack family next week.

Save the date: End of the clothes study celebration will be on Feb. 13th at 9:00 in the Library for our 4th annual fashion show.
