Responsibilities of

Adjunct Faculty/Teaching Assistants and

Program Directors

1.  EPAF requirements - all of the following must be submitted to the Departmental Administrative Assistant during the semester before the semester of employment (936-468-6401). A master’s degree is the minimum qualification for consideration as an instructor.

a.  Three letters of recommendation

b.  Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended

c.  Copies of all professional licenses/certifications

d.  Up-to-date vita

e.  Current contact information (i.e., address, home telephone number, cell telephone number).

2.  Human Resources requirements-all of the following must be completed and submitted during the semester before the semester of employment (Contact: 936-468-2304/FAX 936-468-1104). http://www.sfasu.edu/hr/

a.  Background check form

b.  I-9 form

c.  W4 form

d.  New Employee Orientation

Work CANNOT and official employment WILL NOT begin

until all requirements noted above are completed.

3.  Instructions on how to access username for email address and access to D2L, mySFA and BANNER.

b.  Online instruction – D2L training (http://d2l.sfasu.edu) (http://www.sfasu.edu/sfaonline/486.asp)

PRIOR to the semester of anticipated employment,

# 3 is required of all on-line instructors who have no

prior experience with mySFA, BANNER, and/or D2L.

All of the following must be addressed by the program director/

faculty with the new adjunct faculty and or teaching assistants

the semester prior to the semester of employment.

4.  Department/Program Communication

a.  Use of SFA e-mail required

b.  Read and respond to SFA email regularly

c.  Location of mailbox in Department Office mail room

d.  Identification of personal code for use of copy machine (see department technology representative)

e.  Property removal requirements

f.  Where relevant, securing building keys and return protocol

5.  Program-level training/communication

a.  Receipt of course syllabus and schedule from program director required the semester before the first day of class w/a meeting to review and clarify.

b.  Adherence to course syllabus/syllabi is required; office hours must be noted.

c.  Information about LiveText must be reviewed (grading and scoring rubrics)

d.  Training about uploading assessment into LiveText required in relevant courses

e.  Office space for office hours where relevant

f.  Desk copy of required textbook ordered or program director/faculty provide textbook

g.  Course Evaluations’ access and review

h.  Grade entry time-line heeded—reminders noted in e-mail communication.

i.  Meeting requirements established by program director/faculty

j.  If the instructor of graduate-level courses, completion and submission of the graduate faculty application form to departmental administrative assistant (http://www.sfasu.edu/graduate/248.asp) (http://www.sfasu.edu/graduate/documents/graduate-faculty-application.pdf)

k.  Updated course syllabus with instructor information and new dates must be submitted to the departmental administrative assistant before the first day of classes during the semester of anticipated employment

l.  Periodic ongoing contact with program director over the semester strongly recommended.

m.  Schedule time for photo for website and publication of accomplishments (optional)

n.  Familiarity with student policies on absence, plagiarism, grading, e-mail, and identification of at-risk students (see attached syllabus template)

6.  Parking on campus (Info included in new employee orientation)

7.  Teaching instructions:

a.  Classes should meet the entire time noted in BANNER

b.  Classes should meet in the rooms assigned and noted in BANNER

8.  Teaching Excellence Center –strongly recommended reading.

b.  Teaching Circles

9.  University-required annual evaluation with Department Chair required between May 15 and June 1 at which time all university property, including keys, must have been returned. All instructors must submit to the Chair at the end of the semester a brief, written narrative providing feedback about their experience as an instructor (i.e., satisfaction with pre-preparation, need for guidance and support) and identifying instructional strengths and areas to be strengthened. Failure to comply with this requirement may effect decision-making about future employment.
