Overview:
For the last seven years the Stephen Siller Foundation has hosted the Tunnel-To-Towers Run, a 5K that has attracted over 25,000 participants from all over the globe in honor of fallen firefighter, Stephen Siller and his 342 brothers that perished on September 11, 2001. This run retraces Stephens last steps from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to Ground Zero in the financial district of New York City. Over $3.5 million dollars have been raised through the run, which have helped orphans of 9/11, victims of Hurricane Katrina, the Wounded Warrior Project, and Burn Centers. Corporate and Celebrity Partners that have helped with this mission include: the New York Islanders Hockey Club, UPS, Dunkin Donuts, Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Actor John Totoro, Singer Danny Rodriguez, Firefighter Bob Beckwith, Oprah, CBS, PBS, WFAN, and many more.
Description:
Seeking a proactive, goal-oriented, and independent individual who is looking to gain experience in fundraising/sponsorship/special events within sport. The individual who earns this 4 month internship will report directly to the Director of Corporate Partnerships, and will learn the following: how to build strong relationships with corporate partners, create innovative ways to develop strategic sponsorships with Fortune 500 companies in support of the goals of the Stephen Siller Foundation/Tunnel-To-Towers Run, assist with maximizing corporate partnerships, manage, and execute sales strategy to drive funds, create a marketing plan that will impact the New York City-Tri-State Area, and the global market.
Must be able to take ownership of developing new business/lead generation, ownership of deal negotiations. Must be able to manage multiple projects-various projects include the Tunnel-To-Towers Run, Stephen Siller Foundation
Night at the New York Islanders (this also includes a silent auction/cocktail party with top donors and celebrities), Operation Support-a 3 course golf tournament, a fashion fundraiser, and more. This research/field based internship will help prepare students who are interested in a career in sponsorship, special events, and/or fundraising in the sport or non-profit industry. Must be able to work independently, possess strong communication skills. Hours per week required are 8-12 hours.
Requirements: Must be a sophomore or junior Leisure and Sport Management or Business Administration major with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Highly organized and disciplined approach. Unpaid.
