Part Time evening Lecturing Staff in Humanities

Institute of Technology Tallaght (ITT Dublin) is a leader in design and delivery of career focused courses at Higher Certificate, Honours Degree and Post Graduate level. We prepare quality graduates who combine a sound academic grounding with the practical skills required by modern industry and commerce. The Institute is linked with industry and with other higher education institutions both in Ireland and in Europe and has built an active and productive research, development and consultancy programme. The Institute contributes effectively to the industrial and commercial growth of South Dublin County and has become a vital component of its infrastructure since it opened in 1992.
The Institute is creating a panel from which staff may be appointed to work on our part time evening programme.
Part Time Lecturing Staff on Evening Programme - Overview
Part time lecturing staff are actively involved in the delivery of the Part time programme in ITT Dublin. Many (if not most) are working elsewhere, but wish to be involved in education and find the Part Time Programme in ITT Dublin allows them to do this, as it provides a wide variety of courses from Certificate to Degree and Post Graduate Courses.
The Academic year for the Evening Programme begins mid September each year. The Institute runs on a semesterised / modularised basis. This means that the whole assessment and examination process runs twice a year, again with the exception of a number of professional institute programmes. The two semesters normally run for 12 weeks each.
Academic Requirements for Part time Lecturing Staff
Applications are welcome from those withan appropriate primary honours degree (level 8 ) – with a 2.ii honours classification or higher in the relevant discipline area. In addition, at least three years relevant post graduate experience is also required. A relevant postgraduate qualification or professional qualification and or relevant lecturing experience would be desirable.Successful candidates will be required to have a Garda Background Clearance Check.
Staff is paid on an hourly basis – the current part time hourly rate is €56.74
Department of Humanities
The Department of Humanities provides undergraduate and graduate programmes of study in Social Care, Tourism, Hospitality and Culinary Arts, Creative Digital Media, and European Studies.
Students are provided with specialist training and education utilising the latest technologies and teaching methodologies. Students pursing courses in European Studies spend part of their studies abroad, while students taking courses of study in Social Care, Tourism, Hospitality and Culinary Arts undertake significant periods on placement.
Lecturing staff within the department are actively engaged in many research fields which ensures that each programme offered is academically and practically focused. This benefits the student as each programme of study fosters creative, critical, competitive and practical competencies.
The Institute is now creating a panel of part time evening lecturers in the following programmes in Humanities
Creative Digital Media
The BA in Creative Digital Media Level 8 is a recognised leader in its field, having established a strong reputation within industry for providing graduates with the professional skills relevant to current and future job markets. The programme provides graduates to the industry with an understanding of the creative intersections between media and an ability to work across various platforms. Keeping abreast of rapid developments, the course today for example addresses content provision for mobile technologies, social media development, animation and live action film production as well as photographic and radio production including podcasting and live broadcasting. Graduates from the programme have the kind of technological and creative flexibility much sought after within the digital media industry. The programme blends media practice and theory, recognizing the important links between media productions and the concepts that drive them. Practical modules and specialist workshops encompass Digital Video, Interactive Multimedia, Photography, and Radio Production.
Culinary Arts
Culinary Arts programmes provide learners with the knowledge skills and competence necessary for a career in the culinary arts sector, and to establish a base for further professional career development. This is achieved by providing the students with the essential practical skills and academic knowledge required of modern day professionals working in kitchen environments.
The overall aim of the programme is to enable students to develop a comprehensive understanding of the diverse disciplines in the culinary arts, and to apply in-depth theoretical knowledge to the development, planning, production and evaluation of complex and artistic culinary products of the highest quality in a commercial context, underpinned by an understanding of applied food science and current and emerging technology.
Social Care Practice
The BA in Social Care Practice Level 8 Social Care aims to provide graduates to work in a wide variety of client groups such as people with disabilities, children and young people, members of the Traveller Community, homeless people, elderly people, asylum seekers and people with mental health difficulties. Students complete a number of work placements in years 2 and 4. These work placements provide students with the chance to apply the theory they have learnt in their lectures to the real-world of social care. The teaching staff has worked in various areas of Social Care for many years and will share their expertise and experience so that students will, after four years, be very highly qualified and trained to work to an excellent standard as social care professionals.
Hospitality and Tourism programme
The BA Degree in International Hospitality & Tourism Management provides graduates with a unique skill-set to enable them build and pursue successful careers in international hospitality & tourism management. These graduates will be in demand by hospitality companies, transport companies, tour operators, destination and event management companies, state agencies and consulting companies at home and abroad.
English as a Foreign Language
This programme is designed for those with a working knowledge of written and spoken English who wish to improve their language skills and gain a formal qualification. It provides general preparation and guidance for students who wish to sit either the IELTS exam in Academic English or the IELTS exam in general Training.

Proposed merger of Three Institutes
Please note that it is planned that three institutions in the Dublin region – Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Institute of Technology, Blanchardstown (ITB) and Institute of Technology, Tallaght (ITTD) will merge into a single institution to form the new Dublin Institute of Technology, prior to seeking designation as a Technological University for Dublin. Thereafter staff may be assigned or re-assigned to any of the buildings / centres in the new Dublin Institute of Technology, at the discretion of the Institute.
