Mission Statement, Philosophy Statement & Integral Student Outcomes (ISO’s)

Overall task: Does our Mission Statement, Philosophy of Education (Philosophy Statement), and Grad at Grad: Profile 2020 (ESLRs/ISOs) reflect a clear vision of the purpose of St. Ignatius College Preparatory?

1.  Read Mission Statement, Philosophy of Education, and Grad at Grad: Profile 2020

2.  Discuss Guided Questions:

a)  What are the challenges facing students in the future?

b)  What competencies should students possess whey they pursue postsecondary education?

c)  What are the key Catholic/Jesuit values we want students to have upon graduation?

3.  Review comparable school’s Mission Statements. Are there elements in these statements that we should consider adding to our school’s documents?

4.  In light of the above responses, what revisions would you recommend making to our Mission Statement, Philosophy of Education, and Grad at Grad: Profile 2020 (ESLRs)?

Next steps: Revision recommendations will be forwarded to Academic Council, IMIB, and the Leadership Team who will review and consolidate them. The Core Leadership Team will revise the documents as needed.

Archbishop Mitty High School is the Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory school of the Diocese of San Jose. We embrace the Catholic educational mission of developing community, teaching the message of the Gospels, and promoting service, peace, and justice. Through our rigorous academic program, we seek to prepare our students for college and for responsible leadership in the global society of the 21st century. At the same time, we work diligently with parents to foster the development of each student. Recognizing that each individual is created in the image and likeness of God, we celebrate and affirm our diverse cultural community and encourage students to respond to their world with competence, insight, understanding, courage, and compassion based on a tradition of faith and moral values.

Bellarmine College Preparatory is a community of men and women gathered together by God for the purpose of educating the student to seek justice and truth throughout his life. We are a Catholic school in the tradition of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Founder of the Society of Jesus. As such, our entire school program is dedicated to forming "men for others" -- persons whose lives will be dedicated to bringing all their God-given talents to fullness and to living according to the pattern of service inaugurated by Jesus Christ.

Jesuit High School (in Portland) is a Catholic, college-preparatory school in the Jesuit tradition. It serves students of all religious faiths. Jesuit education fosters the harmonious development of the adolescent's gifts: spiritual, religious, intellectual, physical, emotional, and aesthetic. Jesuit High School hopes to accomplish this development by demonstrating a personal concern for individuals, a special concern for the poor, an articulate wisdom, enthusiasm, and a sense of community. In so doing, the school hopes to graduate leaders who are committed to serve God and their fellow men and women. Our hope is that our students develop a profound sense of justice founded in love, i.e., leaders who are "men and women for others."

Sacred Heart Cathedral. Excellence in Catholic education since 1852. Enter to Learn; Leave to Serve. Inspired by the Daughters of Charity and the De La Salle Christian Brothers, in partnership with families, Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory’s mission is to provide the finest education in an inclusive Catholic community of faith. We prepare our students to become service-oriented leaders with a commitment to living the Gospel.

Saint Francis High School. In the tradition of the Catholic Church and the spirit of Holy Cross, Saint Francis High School is committed to providing the finest college-preparatory program in an inclusive family environment, encouraging students to achieve their highest potential through:

·  Spiritual development, which expresses their Christian values in the convictions of their heart and the actions of their hands;

·  Intellectual development, which translates their knowledge and skills into independent and creative thinking;

·  Social development, which transforms their activities and experiences into leadership in and service to the community.

Our students become Holy Cross men and women who are uniquely prepared for college, service and leadership. Holy Cross men and women are people of integrity who discover their God-given talents, respect the dignity of every person, celebrate family and bring hope to others.

Seattle Prep is consistent in its vision and effectiveness because it is part of a 500-year legacy begun by St. Ignatius. There is no doubt about who we are and what we believe, for it has always been the same: to form men and women to be leaders who will work for faith and justice. Seattle Prep is a Catholic, college preparatory school. Faithful to Jesuit tradition, our mission is the development of young men and women in the processes of learning to learn, learning to live and learning to love. We recognize the prophet Micah’s call to “act justly, love tenderly and to walk humbly with our God” for the transformation of ourselves and the world.
