Research Project – Parent Note
It is time in the GT pullout classroom for students to begin working on their research topics. 1st and 2nd grade students will be assigned (via a random drawing) a US President to research. The skills for the research project have been (and will continue to be) taught / reviewed in class (research, note taking, works cited, etc.), with the majority of the research being completed at school. Outside work will be limited but may be necessary. I have modeled each step of the research process and will continue to guide the students.
Parents can best help their children by showing enthusiasm for the study, keeping students on track throughout the study so that they do not fall behind, locating resources and sending them to school, purchasing product supplies, and perhaps trips to the local library. It is my expectation that the WORK will be done by the students not by others. I want to see what the students can produce. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at what your student is capable of if just given the chance. Please allow your child this opportunity to experience a personal success.
My goal is for the students to learn the process of research and have fun while doing so. They will do this through being well-organized and well-prepared. You can help by talking about their progress, ensuring that they have available resources (books, magazines, tangible resources, not just internet resources), helping to gather items to complete a product, etc.
I appreciate your time and concern during the research project. You make a big difference in your child’s attitude regarding the project. I am looking forward to an exciting study with the students.
I have attached the topic contract as well as the grading rubric to this note. Please note that the Topic Contract is due on your student’s GT day the week of January 9-13. Also, please mark your calendars for March 1-2, 2017. Projects are due Wednesday, March 1st. Students will display their projects for our annual GT Museum Thursday night, March 2nd 6-7 pm, during Open House. I do expect all of my students to attend the GT Museum. I will send home more information as this night approaches.
The museum is open to all students and parents of Copeland Elementary to view the hard work produced by the gifted and talented students on their research projects.

Proyecto de investigación - Nota de los padres
Es hora de que los estudiantes comiencen a trabajar en sus temas de investigación. Los estudiantes de 1º y 2º grado serán asignados (a través de un sorteo al azar) a un Presidente de los Estados Unidos para investigar. Las habilidades para el proyecto de investigación han sido (y seguirán siendo) enseñadas / revisadas en clase (investigación, toma de notas, trabajos citados, etc.), y la mayoría de las investigaciones se completan en la escuela. El trabajo exterior será limitado pero puede ser necesario. He modelado cada paso del proceso de investigación y seguiré guiando a los estudiantes.
Los padres pueden ayudar mejor a sus hijos mostrando entusiasmo por el estudio, manteniendo a los estudiantes en camino durante todo el estudio para que no se queden atrás, la localización de recursos y enviarlos a la escuela, la compra de suministros de productos, y tal vez viajes a la biblioteca local. Es mi expectativa que el TRABAJO sea hecho por los estudiantes no por otros. Quiero ver lo que los estudiantes pueden producir. Creo que usted será agradablemente sorprendido por lo que su estudiante es capaz de si sólo se da la oportunidad. Permita que su hijo / a tenga la oportunidad de experimentar un éxito personal.

He adjuntado el contrato de tema así como la escala de calificación a esta nota. Tenga en cuenta que el contrato temático se debe hacer en el día GT de su estudiante la semana del 9-13 de enero. Los estudiantes exhibirán sus proyectos para nuestro Museo GT anual el jueves por la noche, 2 de marzo de 6-7 pm, durante la jornada de puertas abiertas. Espero que todos mis estudiantes asistan al GT Museum. Enviaré a casa más información a medida que se acerca esta noche.
