Northridge AFJROTC Parent Support Group Minutes

September 29th, 2014

Meeting was called to order at 6:59 pm

Sign-in sheet circulated for new members and introductions made.

The Northridge AFJROTC Tailgate event was a huge success and raised $432 from donations.

Fundraisers, old and new, were discussed.

·  The Buffalo Wild Wings fundraiser is ongoing. There was discussion of passing out BWW cards outside the restaurant, but only to people who are leaving, for use on their next visit.

·  An RC Willey Hotdog fundraiser (Syracuse store) has been set up for December 6th, 2014 from 11am to 5pm. Hotdogs are served from 12 noon to 4pm, with a little time for instruction, set up and cleanup, before and after. We need 3 parents and 10 cadets. Signup sheet for cadets will be posted in the ROTC room closer to the date.

·  Waiting to hear back from the Utah Jazz on the possibility of cadets manning a food booth at one of the games. Could make $1000 profit. Also the possibility of cadets doing a color guard at a game. Great visibility for the Corps. Would need parent drivers for this.

·  Mistletoe fundraiser is on the schedule for December 17th through the 22nd. Cadets and parent volunteers (no need to sign up, just show up) will be cutting, bagging and beribboning the mistletoe on December 17th, after school, about 2:30pm (time will be confirmed). December 18th through the 22nd, tables will be set up at Smiths, the BX and the Commissary. A signup sheet, with 2 to 3 hr time slots for parents and cadets will be posted closer to the date. If you have base access, please sign up for the BX or Commissary.

·  A Northridge AFJROTC Chick-fil-A Spirit night has been set up for October 21st, 2014 from 5pm to 7pm at the restaurant on Antelope Drive in Layton. 20% of the proceeds go to the Corps.

·  Discussion about holding a 5k fundraiser in the spring.

·  Possible Valentine fundraiser. Making, selling and delivering Hershey Kiss Candygrams within the school.

The cadets have an ongoing service project, helping out at the Food Bank every Friday.

The date for the Spec Ops Wildcat Challenge held at Weber State, is November 6th. We will need donations of water, fruit and protein or granola bars closer to the date.

There will be no Halloween social at Northridge this year.

The Veterans Day Parade will be November 8th in Ogden. The Cadets will be marching in the parade.

The date for the Southern California Invitational Drill Meet (SCIDM) is February 28th, 2015. There will be more discussion of this at a later date.

No word yet on venue or date for the State Drill Competition.

The Facebook page for the corps is “Northridge JROTC”. Lt.Col Dewlen posts all events on that site.

The next Parent Support Group meeting will be Wednesday, October 29th, 2014 at 7pm in the ROTC area.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:37 pm.
