My CWI Final Script about Facebook and MySpace

For the CWI final presentation, part of our topic is to research about Facebook and MySpace.com. Rather than making them roughly, I made my script into a clean and nicely arranged form like an interview. I am interviewing myself about what I found about Facebook and MySpace.com. But the interview is just an interview but an introduction of our entire group presentation.

The first question is…

1.  What are Facebook and MySpace.com?

A: Facebook and MySpace.com are social networking websites where people can join and communicate each other through uploading files, messages, photos, and videos publicly. A little differing from traditional electronic mails such as Hotmail, Yahoo, Lycos, Gmail, and Daum, the list of messages can be shown quicker in both of the websites.

The second question is…

2.  What are the quantities in them?

A: They are both commonly multimedias. In Facebook, there are freedom of use the website anytime, profiles, inbox of files, messages, photos (sometimes into a album form), videos, accountants of information and privacies, service, features of highlights such as events to organize plan and be part of it, groups, developers, status, notes, friends in other networks, and programs to invite friends to their account and his or her signed events. In MySpace.com, there are some categories similar to that of Facebook, but I will tell you what are more inside the website. There are also law enforcements, consent, special telephone hotline, disclosures of information, addresses, public information, privacies of messages, blogs, and journals, IP logs, identity, classification, and stored data. There are blurbs, bulletin boards, MySpaceIM, MySpaceTV, events, and etc.

The third question is…

3.  What are the qualities of them?

A: For the quickness of Facebook, the speed of network and checkup is very fast because the messages fast upload onto the profile’s wall. For the quickness of MySpace.com, it is similar to the style of Facebook.

The fourth question is…

4.  What are the past, present, and, future events about Facebook and MySpace.com?

A: There were several phenomenon happened in both of the websites, but I cannot tell all of them and I will just choose basic form because there are too many. First, for the Facebook, they are foundations. Facebook is found by a formal dropped out Harvard and Ardsley High School student, Mark Zuckerberg and later joined by Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. Second, it is the big hit of the website and 85 % of students use Facebook and 60 % of it log in for twenty minutes which they consider the site as ‘things in’. 90 % of undergraduates use Facebook. 76.2 % of the users do not click on ads but to chat with their friends. Third, Facebook made a friend with iPod, comScore, Media Metrix, beer, and etc. Fourth, Facebook became a 7th social networking website in the series of most trafficked site in U.S.A. And fifth, Facebook received tons of money almost $ 40 millions through the tied relationship with several famous electronic companies. The runners can afford the users some free items easily. First, for the MySpace.com, it was found in August, 2003 by its owner, News Corporation. The first user is E-Universe employees to see who will be the most signers and help the site up to massive succession. It did up to 20 million users. Shortly after the launch, Chris DeWolfe and Brad Greenspan helped the succession out. DeWolfe and Berman can purchase equally. Second, now, it receives a number of requests for publicly available and without being legal. Third, in January, 2006, Fox Corporation announced that MySpace had launched itself to United Kingdom.

The fourth question is…

5.  What are problem or misfortune happened to the websites?

A: A misfortune for the Facebook is that their well progression did not last long because it was receiving a threatening lawsuit from ConnectU. A problem of MySpace.com is that there are restrictions of usage in the site. It is excesses then, the problem goes to legal case.

The fifth question is …

6.  What is the future for both of the sites?

A: Despite the misfortune of Facebook, the site will success massively in no time without reasons but the categories in the website is appealing. Despite the problem of MySpace.com, it will progress well.

The seventh questions is…

7.  Is there any connection to other kinds of sites from them?

A: Yes, Facebook has a relationship with various and iPod, iTune, Peter Theil from PayPal, Google, and Accel Partners. MySpace.com has a relationship with ECPA, which means Electronic Communications Privacy Act and it for to extend wire taps for government restriction, and law enforcement. MySpace.com has not much tie with others.

The eighth question is …

8.  I would explain more, selective, and basic details of each categories of both Facebook and MySpace.com

A: I will start with MySpace.com. There are three kinds of, email addresses, IP addresses, and private messages. They exist in each of three different kinds of places in each profile. ‘Basic user identity information such as store user files and general records’, ‘IP which it stands for Information Provider or Internet Protocol) address’, and ‘Private user communications’ are used differently in those two places; active accounts, deleted accounts, and moving information. First, they are active accounts. Basic user identity information such as store users files and general records are available to everyone. IP address can be revealed. The private inbox mails (private inbox messages, private sent messages, and private messages in trash can) can be preserved until the users delete into another trashcan. Second, it is deleted accounts. ‘Basic user identity information, stored user files, and general records’ are available for almost ten days after deleting. ‘IP address logs and stamps’ are retained for almost ninety days after deleting. There are no such things as private user communications in deleted account. Third, the moving information, there are email address, IP address, and private messages. In the concept of email address, there are username and domain in account. In the concept of IP address, the logs use address of the user and records how it was used. In the concept of private messages, it looks like an excel spreadsheet forming with separate columns at the bottom of the sheet for the messages. Next one is about Facebook. There are profile, photos, group, events, and etc. I will start with profile, first. It contains information, status, a list of friends, friends in other networks, photos, notes, groups, and the wall. Next is about photography. The users can upload photos onto their wall through computers, cell phones, Java, and interface. The methods actually are simple. Third is about group. Group is to analyze into normal and secret. To create and invite friends into and to profiles so they can have fun sharing and sending messages to each other. Fourth is about events. It is to organize plans and

The ninth question is …

9.  What are the difference and similarity between the real electronic email and social networking websites?

A: This answer can reveal on my own because I have all three of Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, and MSN. Yahoo Mail and Hotmail have inbox, trashcan, sent, junk, attachment program, addresses, and other networks. The attached files and photos can be opened through the sent and received mails. Messenger is just a chatting mail network and faster than email websites. The social networking websites such as Facebook, MySpace.com, hi5, Bebo, Friendstar, and Xanga, have all photos and information revealed as the users enter through the front wall rather than going into the inbox and open the attachment files. Those are the difference between emails and social networking websites. The similarity is that information are passing and moving everywhere so easily.

The tenth question is …

10.  But it seems like we can easily able to know a little about some strangers in social networking website. Is it?

A: Yes, it can. I have a memory of a boy got my account and added to his address box but I refused him because I do not know about him much or I am afraid that he’s some kind of a stalker. The profile owner can accept friends who he or she really knows and refuse friends who he or she really does not know.
