PROJECT TITLE
Santa Ana Canyon Metrolink Station formerly known as Yorba Linda Train Station
ITIP FUNDING NEED:$5 million
Location Map:
Project Location: The City of Yorba Linda, located at the northeast boundary of Orange County, along the State Route 91 corridor.
Co/Rte/KP/PM:Not Applicable
Project Description:This project consists of preliminary engineering, final design and construction of a new Metrolink station in the City of Yorba Linda.
Project Scope:The proposed Yorba Linda station consists of two platforms, a pedestrian overcrossing, track realignment, parking lot site improvements, grading, utility work, and drainage improvements. The proposed station is located at the intersection of Esperanza and New River Road.
Preliminary concept plans for the station were prepared by the City in 1997, and a 2.1 acre piece of land was purchased in April, 2001, to accommodate the proposed station. The City is ready to proceed to final design now that the Orange County Transportation Authority and the Riverside County Transportation Commission have formally agreed to fund the Riverside to Los Angeles via Fullerton Metrolink service.
This project consists of preliminary engineering, final design (PS&E), right of way and construction of the station.
Cost Estimate: $8 million for engineering, right of way and construction.
Potential Funding:$3 million from local sources

PROJECT INFORMATION
Purpose & Need for the Project:
Project Purpose:
To address the State Route 91 congestion problem, the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA) plans to implement Metrolink service between Riverside and Los Angeles via Fullerton in 2002. This service will pass through Yorba Linda each morning and evening. If a new Metrolink station is constructed in the City of Yorba Linda, residents bound for Los Angeles County will have an opportunity to use this service.
This project has the potential to create congestion relief in the SR-91 corridor by providing access to the Metrolink commuter rail system. It also provides an opportunity for the Department to partner and participate in joint project development activities with the City of Yorba Linda, OCTA, RCTC, and SCRRA.
Project Need:
Yorba Linda residents primarily use Weir Canyon, Imperial Highway, and Lakeview Avenue to access SR 91. Many of these commuters continue on State Route 91 to Interstate 5, Interstate 605, and Interstate 110 for accessing employment centers in Los Angeles County.
Unfortunately, accessing State Route 91 from Yorba Linda is difficult given the significant congestion delays on the mainline freeway. Frequent, recurring congestion on the freeway translates into significant vehicle queues at all of the major State Route 91 on-ramps in Yorba Linda.
The California State Department of Transportation is seeking ways to improve travel in the SR-91 corridor. In partnership with local and regional transportation agencies this project presents opportunities for the Department to participate in the development and provision of transit facilities and equipment.
