ANNOUNCEMENTS:

WHAT’S NEW? . . . Well, here is something that is new – Odin Card rewards have changed! Yes, we might have ice cream from time to time however, you can expect Twix, 3 Musketeers, Sour Punch Straws and . . So earn those Odin cards. Remember to have your teacher sign the back. Redeem your card at the end of the week on Friday.

A REMINDER, A REMINDER, A REMINDER. If you ride something with wheels to school, [bike, skateboard, etc.] you must wear a helmet. Remember this is a state law, not just a Clement rule. Beginning on Wednesday, Feb 14 we will confiscate your “wheeled item” and a parent will need to pick it up or bring a helmet. (See CMS Handbook, page 5 & BIG white sign on the fence)

ANOTHER REMINDER. Rememberall food itemsshould be finished before you go on the field. It is a good idea to review the phone and ear bud policy (See page 6 CELL PHONES & #13 under Viking Code of Conduct)

CLOTHING DRIVE:LAST 3 DAYS FOR CLOTHING+: Clean out those closets for the Viking textile drive: clothes, shoes, bedding, towels, drapes, stuffed animals... pretty much anything soft. 28 February is the LAST DAY! Thanks for all the donations so far!

Book Feature:The Breadwinner: A graphic novel

This graphic-novel adaptation ofThe Breadwinneranimated film tells the story of eleven-year-old Parvana who must disguise herself as a boy to support her family during the Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan. Parvana lives with her family in one room of a bombed-out apartment building in Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital city. Parvana’s father — a history teacher until his school was bombed and his health destroyed — works from a blanket on the ground in the marketplace, reading letters for people who cannot read or write. One day, he is arrested for having forbidden books, and the family is left without someone who can earn money or even shop for food. As conditions for the family grow desperate, only one solution emerges. Forbidden to earn money as a girl, Parvana must transform herself into a boy, and become the breadwinner

HARKINS MOVIE TICKETS: PTSA is selling Harkins movie tickets every Thursday before and after school to help support music and drama boosters. Tickets are $8. Sales will take place at the east entrance gate between the main office and basketball courts.
