Dear Parents/Guardians,
Your child is currently enrolled in my Economics course. In this semester, we will be covering topics concerning core concepts, international economics, and personal finance. Attendance is encouraged each and every day as the pace of this course is very fast. I have also included a pacing guide that will show generally where we will be each week.
The course will cover all of the Economics Georgia Performance Standards as required by the Georgia Board of Education. The standards will be covered and provided for your child individually, but you can also access the standards for the course at https://www.georgiastandards.org. The major examination for Economics is the End of Course Examination (EOC), which will serve as the final exam in this course. The EOC is a state requirement and is required to serve as the final exam grade by the Georgia Board of Education. The EOC is difficult, so attendance is encouraged as everything that these tests cover cannot be learned by reading from the textbook.
The grading scale is as the Pelham City Board of Education requires. Homework, quizzes, and tests make up the regular classroom grade, and the final exam (EOC) will count 20% of the total grade as mandated by the Georgia Department of Education. The Pelham City Schools grading policy is located in the student handbook.
Please feel free to contact me with any concerns that you may have this semester. I can be reached at school at 294-8623.
I look forward to speaking with you and enjoying a productive semester with your child. With your cooperation, we can achieve much more than I can alone.
Thanks,
Dr. Michael Boyd
