EQUIPMENT PRESSURE

1. INTRODUCTION

All pressure equipment should be suitably identified and recorded in a NOSA or similar Pressure Equipment Register. Inspections and tests should be carried out on a due date in accordance with legal/standard requirements and should include pressure test, safety valve, gauges and cylinders.

NB: Adhere to manufacturer’s specifications/requirements.

2. REQUIREMENTS OF THE NOSA SYSTEM STANDARD
4.4.6.1ELEMENT 4.4.6.17 PRESSURE EQUIPMENT AND COMPRESSED GAS CYLINDERS

INTENT:HSE risks associated with pressurised systems, equipment, vessels and portable gas containers are identified, assessed and managed.

  1. PRESSURE EQUIPMENT ON REGISTER, TESTS AND INSPECTIONS CARRIED OUT
  • All pressure equipment identified by means of manufacturer's plate and/or company identification
  • All pressure equipment constructed, maintained and operated within set standards
  • All pressure equipment on register with appropriate certificates available
  • All inspections and tests to be carried out on due date and in accordance with standards by appropriately qualified and approved person where applicable
  1. TESTING
  • Testing requirements identified and adhered to
  • Records of tests maintained
  1. RELIEF VALVES LOCKED OR SEALED
  • Relief valves set to required pressure before installation
  • Relief valves on register with serial number and location where required
  • All relief (safety) valves physically locked or sealed
  • Safety valves vent to safe area
  1. RED LINE ON PRESSURE GAUGES
  • All pressure gauges marked with a red line on the dial of the pressure gauge (to correspond with manufacturer’s plate and certificate) as required
  • Maximum work pressure known and alarm system in place to notify/warn as required
  • Equipment calibrated and displayed (stickers/tags)
  1. GAS INSTALLATIONS AND CYLINDERS
  • All portable gas cylinders correctly stored
  • All pressure equipment (including pipe work) securely installed and protected from damage caused by elements or processes
  • All gas installations and equipment in a safe condition and on register (e.g. portable oxy-acetylene welding trolleys, refrigeration units and CO2 installations)
  • Operators trained in the correct and safe use of equipment
  • Register correctly completed and kept up-to-date
  • All flame cutting sets fitted with flashback arrestors
  • Drawings for gas plant/installation updated when required
  1. PNEUMATIC MACHINES: USAGE, STORAGE and REGISTER
  • All pneumatic tools on register and checked regularly
  • Health risks pertaining to pneumatic tools been identified, assessed and actioned
  1. HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS
  • Risks associated with hydraulic systems identified and assessed
  • Monitoring and maintenance requirements identified and complied with
