Physical Education Procedures and Rules:

All students must dress in workout clothes with tennis shoes for every class.

Physical Education classes are based on activity participation. For that reason it is essential that the student be in class, dressed, and ready to participate every day. Eighty percent of the grade is based on being dressed for class and participation. Twenty percent of the grade is based on skills and knowledge. School wide dress code will be enforced.

Excused Absences

Students participating in a Quarter long classes will be allowed to make up a maximum of 3 classes.

Student participating in a Semester long class will be allowed to make up a maximum of 5 classes.

Each make up slip needs to be signed by a parent/coach.

No Dress Days/Unexcused Absences

Student will be allowed to make up one day of class in which they did not dress.

No Dress days 2-4 will be treated will be treated as unexcused absences (loss of daily points) and no make up allowed.

Third day the student’s parents will be notified by letter. The fifth no dress day will result in the student being dropped from the class.

All unexcused absences are a loss of points with no opportunity for make up.

Dismissal Bell

Students must stay in the gym or back hall until the dismissal bell rings. If a student leaves early they will be marked absent.

Daily Class Schedule

9th GradeStudents will have 5 minutes to change, 35 minutes of activity, 5 minutes to change

10th-12 GradeStudents will have 5 minutes to change, 40 minutes of activity, 5 minutes to change.

Daily Participation Points

Each day the students have the potential to receive 5 points. Please review Points Earned section on back.

Tardies

Students not in the gym and ready for warmup will be counted tardy. Three tardies will result in ISS (In School Suspension)

Behavior

Students are expected to use appropriate language, treat fellow students, facility, equipment, and staff with respect.

Medical Concerns

If you are injured/sick inform the teacher immediately.

If you have any health problems or medical conditions inform your teacher.

Any student that is present for class and cannot participate must have a Doctor’s excuse for no participation.

Consequences

Possible consequences or violations of rules and procedures are:

Cell Phones / I-Pods

Cell phones are not permitted in the gym or locker room. Teachers will inform students if I-pods will be acceptable for class/activity.

  • Effort is fairly consistent, occasional slip due to judgmental error.
  • Actively participates in class.
  • Demonstrates good improvement in skills and displays a good understanding of skills and rules.

3 POINTSAVERAGE

  • Exerts good effort if teacher is watching, if team is winning, if with friends, if good at activity.
  • Requires prompting to put forth an acceptable level of effort.
  • Minimal improvement in skills and minimal understanding of skills and rules.

2 POINTSPOOR

  • Goes through the motions.
  • Contributes very little to team play/ observes activity rather than participate.
  • No improvement in skills and lacks understanding of skills and rules.

1 POINTBELOW AVERAGE

  • Consistently late or absent.
  • Avoids participating in all activities and off task in class.
  • Does not care to improve skills or learn about skills or rules.

0 POINTSUNACCEPTABLE

  • Irresponsible/ unsafe behavior.
  • Inappropriate language.
