ELIGIBILITY:

·  Produce and products offered for sale should normally be produced within 30 miles of Bexhill. Where producers of a certain item cannot be found within this radius, those from further afield may be allowed to trade.

·  You or your firm must have grown, raised, farmed, caught, preserved, processed or made at least 75% of the products you are selling or be part of a co-operative that has done so.

·  You or your representative must be present at the stall and able to answer all reasonable questions about the produce on offer and how it is produced.

·  You must have public liability and produce liability insurance; also food hygiene certificates and alcohol licenses where appropriate.

·  You will need to attend on a regular basis - either weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

STALLS: Covered stalls are provided, erected and dismantled by BFMA. They measure 8ft X 8ft and have a 4 foot deep serving counter. It may be possible for you to have a ‘double’ stall or alternatively to share a stall. Stallholders must display their trading names clearly on their stalls together with a contact address and telephone number.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING? : Chairs, counter covers, banners or other display material.

STALL ALLOCATION: Stalls will be allocated in advance and you will receive notice of same.

FEES: £20.00 per market Stall fees must be paid in advance and are not refundable, but may be credited in case of cancellation more than 72 hours in advance.

WEATHER: The market will trade in nearly all weather conditions. We will notify you if, in case of extremely severe weather, the market is cancelled, in which case fees will be credited.

SET UP: You may set up from 7.30 a.m. and may be given a time slot. Bollards will be removed to allow your vehicle to enter the pedestrian area from Devonshire Road to unload as quickly as possible directly at your stall and then proceed immediately to the exit in order to park. Do not under any circumstances block traffic in Devonshire Road – drive ‘round the block’ if necessary.

PARKING: We have arranged for free parking for stallholders vehicles at Wainwright Road car park. Free parking is also available along De La Warr Parade. Paid parking is available at Rother District Council car parks at Eversley Road and De La Warr Pavilion at £5.00 for over 4 hours.

PACK UP: Stalls should not be cleared before 2.00 p.m. after which time you may return with your vehicle to your stall to collect your remaining stock etc. at a time slot agreed with the Market Manager. NB You must take with you all your packaging and waste.

ELECTRIC APPLIANCES: There are a limited number of stalls with access to a power supply available on request at a charge of £3.00 per market. All appliances brought to the market must be PAT-tested and you must carry with you any electrical certificates relating to them.

TOILETS: There are public toilets in Devonshire Square.

MISCELLANEOUS RULES:

·  In any dispute the Market Manager’s decision is final (subject to a complaints procedure)

·  There is a no smoking policy and a no dogs policy for those stalls selling food.

·  Stallholders must comply with relevant Food Safety Regulations and Trading Standards

legislation regarding the production, labelling, display, storage and sale of goods.

·  No genetically modified (GM) produce may be sold at the market.

·  If a producer portrays the Bexhill Farmers Market in a negative light he may be banned.

·  All stallholders are required to join the Bexhill Farmers Market Association (annual subscription £5.00).This will give you an equal vote in the running of the association and an opportunity to take part in the management of the market by joining the Committee.

CATEGORIES OF PRODUCE: There are 3 categories of produce recognised by BFMA. In order to participate in the market your produce should fit one of these categories.

Category 1: Primary farm produce:

·  Includes eggs, fruit, vegetables, herbs, meat, fish, seafood, cheese, milk, butter, ice cream, honey and bee products, wine, cider, beer, fruit juices, flowers and plants. Plants may include planted baskets if wholly grown and arranged by the stall holder.

Category 2: Hand-made consumable products:

·  Includes ready-made meals, condiments, confectionery, cooking ingredients, preserves, cakes and desserts all of which must contain at least one ingredient of origin from within the local area comprising at least 10% of the product.

Category 3: Hand-made craft items:

·  Products crafted locally or made from recycled materials.

HOW CAN YOU TAKE PART IN BEXHILL FARMERS’ MARKET?

·  Complete the Stallholder Application form.

·  Enclose an up-to-date copy of your public and product liability insurance.

·  Your application will be considered by the Committee in the light of the market’s need to provide a choice of products and you will be notified of the outcome as soon as possible.

·  Send no money in the first instance. If we accept your application we will invoice you for the fees for the first market(s) and the BFMA membership subscription.
