The mission of Lakeview Pantry is to eliminate hunger in our community by: providing food to fill the basic need of hungry people, increasing the independence of our clients through self-help initiatives and other innovative programs, and raising awareness of hunger and poverty and working towards solutions to eliminate them.

One way Lakeview Pantry enacts this mission is through our Social Service Programs. Our Social Service program has three primary arms:

·  Case management, which connects our clients with needed public benefits like Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly known as Food Stamps)

·  Job Search Support, which helps clients as they are preparing for their job search. We assist clients in developing resumes, cover letters and preparing for interviews

·  Mental Health. We offer individual, couples and family counseling to those with limited or no insurance.

The Pantry serves people who live in the area bounded by Fullerton Parkway on the south, Damen Avenue on the west, Lake Michigan on the east, and Wilson Avenue on the north, an area of about six square miles. Service boundaries notwithstanding, people come to the Pantry from all over Chicago and, occasionally, even from the suburbs. Lakeview Pantry has more than 8,000 individual clients and serves about 3,000 of them each month. It is the largest food pantry in Chicago and last fall was voted best nonprofit in Chicago’s 46th Ward.
