RE:COLTRIP HIGH SCHOOLSPEECH, DRAMA, AND DEBATE TOURNAMENT

Colstrip High School cordially invites you to the Colstrip/Forsyth High School Speech, Drama and Debate Tournament on Saturday, December 16, 2017.

REGISTRATION:

Registration will be at Colstrip High School Business Office between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM. An entry fee of $5.00 per student, per event. Registration will be through the Forensic Tournament website at: Friday, December 12 at 7 PM.

*Please email your lunch numbers to Jeannette Barreto by December 8 so our concessionaire can get an idea of how much to order. Food menu : Walking tacos, a cookie and a drink for $6.00

Each school may enter up to three entries in each event.

MHSA Rules:

MHSA B/C rules will apply for all events with noted exceptions. Double entries will be allowed. Please note that judge restrictions may be lifted if needed. ALL EVENTS WILL FOLLOW THE NEW ALL CLASS TIMING PROCEDURES; PLEASE REVIEW THESE RULES WITH YOUR COMPETITORS.

Lincoln-Douglas Debate

November/December Topic:

Resolved: Wealthy nations have an obligation to provide development assistance to other nations.

Policy Debate:

The United States federal government should substantially increase its funding and/or regulation of elementary and/or secondary education in the United States.

FOOD:

Concessions and lunch will be available for students at Colstrip High Schoolconcessions will be available until 1:30. Lunch will be served from 11:30 to 1:30 in the Cafeteria. School purchase orders will be accepted, and tickets provided at registration. Please includethe number of students who wish to buy their own luncheswith your registration. The last day to change purchased lunch numbers will be Dec. 8. Lunch will be provided for judges and bus drivers in the Culinary Room, coaches’ lunches will be in the same room.

COMPETITION SITE:

All events will be held at Colstrip High School, unless our numbers are as big as they were at the last meet we held. Then we will hold Debate and Speech at Pine Butte Elementary. The gym lobby will be used for the commons area for contestants. Contestants should be there when not in rounds. Remember contestants may not be in competition rooms unless a judge or coach is present. At the end of the tournament, please ask your team members to pick up their area. The awards assembly will be as soon as possible following finals and will be in the auditorium.

COMPETITION:

There will be three preliminary rounds and finals in all. The schedule for the day is:

Policy Debate will be round robin of four rounds. Win/loss record and points will determine final placement.

Extemp Draw will bein the library.

AWARDS:

Sweepstakes trophies will be awarded for first place through third place in each class for Speech and Drama. Medals for first place – third placeand certificates for places 4-8 will be presented to individual finalists.
