How to Computer Score the NEO-PI-R
· The scoring system is found on the computer in the back room of the Assessment Lab
· Scoring is done after full completion of the 240 items on the protocol, including the validity items at the bottom.
1. Click on NEO Scoring Software on desktop.
2. Create New Client File.
3. Enter in Client information – Name, birthday, and gender.
4. On the right side of the screen click the button that reads Add New Protocol à Choose NEO-PI-R test protocol.
5. Enter in Validity Responses (Items A, B, and C found on the bottom of the protocol). You must have these entered in or the program will not allow you to generate professional report!
6. Click on responses for each corresponding item being careful not to miss or skip any items.
7. After filling in responses, go to the tool bar at the top of the page and click on the View button à Go towards the bottom of the menu and select Client Report.
8. A box will pop up asking about norm samples and gender - You want to choose Combined Gender* and make sure the norm sample is the Adult sample (NOT college).
* Having your report normed against your specific gender is also possible but for this assignment we
are going to only use the Combined Gender choice.
9. Your Client Profile should generate into something looking like a Word document. You can copy and paste this information into an actual Word file if you would like to have it separate from your client file. PRINT and SAVE the Client Report.
10. After printing and saving your Client Report, return to the top tool bar and click on the View button à This time scroll down and select Professional Report.
11. The same box will pop up as before and you are going to stay with Combined Gender and an Adult sample as you did with the Client Profile.
12. The Professional Report will then be generated into another report resembling a Word document. You can also copy and paste this report into a Word document if you so choose. PRINT and SAVE the Professional Report.
13. Before closing the NEO program, be sure you have saved your entire Client File onto a flash drive. (It will save into a format specific to the program called .nss) This will save your responses so that you can go back and generate reports again in the future without having to enter in all the item responses again.
