Comments/Explanations

Trainer J Keys was fined $50 under LR 13.3 for the late notification of rider for Spirit OfNia in Race 3 today.

Apprentice T Buck was reprimanded under AR 85B for failing to fulfil his engagement in Race1 due to his late arrival on course.

Apprentice S Arnold was reprimanded under AR 120(b) in that he was found to be overweight and unable to fulfil his engagement in Race 8 today.

RACE 1 – SOUTHERN CROSS MAIDEN/CLASS 1 PLATE–2100 METRES

Acting on a report from the Starter that Trelew was fractious in the barriers, connections were advised that the gelding must successfully complete a jump out prior to racing again.

Trelew jumped away awkwardly.

On jumping away Diocese jumped outwards and bumped with Delightful Weekend resulting in Diocese becoming unbalanced and then shifted in towards Aladoni which was tightened onto Master Alfred.

Master Alfred raced wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward to obtain the lead.

Millie Whitehouse-Summers rider of Chain Of Prayers was reprimanded under AR 137A(4)(c) in that she used her whip when out of contention.

RACE 2 – TASBONUS NOMINATIONS CLOSE 30 JUNE 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100 METRES

Shortly after the start Cool Kisses jumped out abruptly and lost ground.

Settler’s Stone was slightly slow to begin then had to be checked when contacted by Roser’s Quest which was taken out by Lampo.

Col’s Hero raced greenly throughout.

In the home straight Wiz Bang hung out when under pressure.

RACE 3 – TASBONUS 2YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE- 1200 METRES

Sh’BourneBel was slow to begin (1L).

Shortly after the start Sapphire Storm shifted out abruptly away from Le PiccoleCose and made heavy contact with Made Of Stars resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. Judah which was racing to the outside was hampered in consequence.

Shah Deimos jumped away awkwardly and contacted Spirit OfNia.

Shortly after this Shah Deimos shifted in and tightened Bachelor’s Life which was then checked and taken out by Mercyful Fate which in turn was taken out by Mundine.

Passing the 1000 metres Sh’BourneBel got its head up when being restrained which resulted in Bachelor’s Life having to be checked when being steadied off that filly’s heels.

Near the 1000 metres Judah had to be checked off the heels of Sapphire Storm.

Approaching the 800 metres Sh’BourneBel and Made Of Stars bumped when Mundine shifted out slightly.

Sapphire Storm and Le PiccoleCose raced wide throughout.

Near the 400 metres Le PiccoleCose had to be checked when tightened for room between Sapphire Storm and Decent Bird due to both horses shifting ground.

Mundine raced greenly for the majority of the event.

Approaching the winning post Made Of Stars was tightened for room between Judah and Le PiccoleCose (Casey Bruce) which after being taken out slightly by Sapphire Storm then shifted further away from that gelding. Casey Bruce was reprimanded under AR 137(a) careless riding and advised to exercise more care when in similar circumstances.

Chantal Willis rider of Miss Ambitious pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 137A(4)(c) in that in the home straight she used her whip in a backhand manner on 10 occasions when the mare was out of contention. Chantal Willis was fined the sum of $100. In arriving at penalty Stewards took into consideration Miss Willis’ guilty plea and good record in relation to this rule.

A post-race veterinary examination of Made Of Stars revealed the gelding to have suffered minor abrasions to both hind legs and off fore leg.

RACE 4 – TASBONUS 2YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE - 1400 METRES

Acting on a report from the Starter that Blushing Quest became restless after being placed in the barriers, connections were advised that a warning has been placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

My Select was slow to begin (1L).

Shortly after the start Don’tgivemelip shifted out and made contact with Western Front.

My Select and Don’tgivemelip raced wide throughout.

Shuji Amano rider of Porto was found guilty of a charge under AR 137(a) careless riding in that racing into the first turn he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Victory Medal taking that gelding in onto Genuine Lad which was then taken in across the running of Setoni resulting in Genuine Lad and Setoni both being checked. Shuji Amano’s licence to ride in races was suspended for one (1) Tasmanian race meeting to commence at midnight 11 May 2014 and to expire at midnight 18 May 2014. In arriving at penalty Stewards took into consideration that the manners of Porto had some contribution to the incident and Shuji Amano’s good record in relation to this rule. Connections were advised that a warning has been placed on the racing manners of Porto due to it laying in during the early stages.

Prior to straightening Western Front was inconvenienced when Genuine Lad shifted out to improve to the outside of Don’tgivemelip.

Anthony Darmanin rider of Blushing Quest which performed below expectations could offer no reason for today’s performance.

Shane Arnold rider of My Select reported that his mount did not handle the track conditions today.

RACE 5 – NEWSTEAD HOTEL OPEN HANDICAP - 1200 METRES

Lonarowhich had not raced for 18 months underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was subsequently passed fit to take its place in the field today.

Correct weight was delayed when David Pires rider of second placegetter Royal Rapture and Trainer Scott Brunton wished to view the official film over the concluding stages. After doing so they lodged an objection against Rasit Yetimova rider of the winner Sh’Bourne Spirit alleging interference over the concluding stages. It was established that near the 50 metres Sh’Bourne Spirit shifted out and slightly impeded the running of Royal Rapture however as Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the interference suffered exceeded the margin at the end of the race the protest was dismissed.

RasitYetimova was reminded of his obligation to keep his mounts straight as not to cause interference to other runners.

Georgie Catania rider of Flash Al Moon reported that in her opinion the mare felt flat today. Connections advised that Flash Al Moon will now be spelled.

Anthony Darmanin rider of Short Story explained that he raced wide from the 700 metres as in his view the gelding was failing to handle the conditions. He further added that from the home turn Short Story failed to respond to his riding and he eased the gelding down from the 150 metres. Anthony Darmanin was notified that he would be expected to ride all his mounts out to the end of the race. A post-race veterinary examination of Short Story revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 6 – THE EXAMINER BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP- 2100 METRES

On jumping away Talent Code and Gee Gees Cool Kid came together.

Chiming was hampered when tightened for room between Mega Excel and Uboa which was taken out by Spotluck which jumped outwards.

Digger’s Sunrise over-raced in the early stages.

During the early and middle stages Mega Excel over-raced.

Georgie Catania rider of By Far explained that she was instructed to ride the gelding aggressively early with a view to lead. Miss Catania stated that after riding aggressively out of the barriers she elected to take a trail behind Digger’s Sunrise and Spotluck due to the quick early pace. Miss Catania further added that between the 1700 metres and the 1400 metres when racing in a forward position she elected to also restrain and obtain a trail when Uboa and Mega Excel improved around her however the gelding got further back than she would have liked. She added that from the 800 metres the gelding was off the bit and having difficulty responding to her riding but did improve for a short distance from the 500 metres. After reviewing the films Miss Catania conceded that she should have continued to allow the horse to race up closer to the lead rather than electing to obtain a trail. Miss Catania was notified that in the Stewards view she should have continued to hold her position in an attempt to fulfil her instructions but after considering her explanation they did not consider that she had made an error that warrant a charge under the rules.

Georgie Catania rider of By Far was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts out fully too the line.

RACE 7 – FOOT AND PLAYSTED CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

Laurenstar jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 1200 metres Persian Jewels was tightened for room when Baumgartner (M Guthrie) shifted in when not quite clear. Michael Guthrie was notified that he should be mindful to be clear of other runners when in similar circumstances.

Finalaregee over-raced in the early stages.

Between the 400 and the 300 metres Dartel was held up and then shortly after had some difficulty obtaining a clear run.

A post-race veterinary examination of Lauren Star revealed the mare blew excessively and had a very high heart rate for an extended period post-race.

RACE 8 – BALMORAL ON YORK CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

Sudden Glory which had not raced for 18 months underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was subsequently passed fit to take its place in the field today.

The Starter reported that due to a power failure at the barriers, this race would be started manually.

Classic Outlaw stumbled when tightened for room between Zarimby racing to the outside shifted in slightly and Yasir which was taken out by Ash For Cash. Ash For Cash was then slow to muster early speed.

Maglia Rosa got its head up when over racing during the early stages.

Near the 600 metres Pixelated was inconvenienced when tightened for room by Yasir (B Muhcu). Bulent Muhcu was notified that he would be expected to take more care when shifting ground.

Daniel Ganderton rider of Classic Outlaw reported that in his view the gelding failed to handle the track surface today.

Brendon McCoull rider of Pixelated which performed below expectations reported that the gelding failed to respond to his riding and he felt that something was amiss and therefore eased down in the home straight. A veterinary examination subsequent to the race revealed no obvious abnormalities other than superficial abrasions to both forelegs. Connections were advised that as Pixelated could not be fully ridden to the barriers, a warning has been placed on the geldings preliminary manners and a repetition may result in further action being taken. A swab sample was also taken from Pixelated.

RACE 8 – SUPPORT CANTEEN ON JULY 13 FILLIES & MARES OPEN HANDICAP – 1100 METRES

Apprentice Melissa Nicholls rider of Savvy Princess was reprimanded AR 137A(4)(c) for using her whip when out of contention and under AR 137A(5)(a)(ii) in that she used her whip in a forehand manner on 8 occasions prior to the 100 metres which is 3 more than permitted under the rule.
