  • Council have match funded the community charrette programme
  • 10k received from Area Partnership
  • Confident that we can meet 25k target
  • The charrette is a Collaborative effort of all organisations, bodies and residents that aims to have a more hands on approach with how Pollokshields will develop as a neighbourhood of all purposes .
  • Although there is no scheduled CC meeting in January extensive information about the charrette will be circulated post-Xmas

Pollokshields Cycling Forum

  • Bill Fraser introduced andsummarisedthe success of Cycle Celebration Day. On the back of the South-West Cycleway the CC together with other local organisations decided a forum dedicated to cycling would become a very positive initiative. This projectwill bemanaged by CC Lindsae Hendry.
  • Overview of Soul Riders by Rashid Khaliq
  • Aims to promote a stronger healthier more active community through the medium of cycling. Using cycling as a tool to bring the community of Pollokshields together with a particular focus on getting more people from diverse backgrounds involved.
  • Shona Morris (Cycling Scotland)discussed key cycling programmes designed to encourage cyclists across Glasgow and Scotland.
  • Laura Carswell (Neilston Development Trust) discussedhow the behavioural aspects and barriers could be overcome to engage residents to take up cycling.
  • Gregory Chauvet (Glasgow Bike Station), overview of project that engages and empowers people e.g. repairing bikes, enabling people to drive to work.
  • Bill encouraged the formation of a Cycling Forum that has its own steering group, remains independent and robust as an entity. Names were taken down.

NOTE: No meeting in January. Next meeting Monday1st February. Venue will be Pollokshields Community Centre, 7pm
