Physical Fitness is designed to provide an opportunity for a student to be SERIOUS about lifting weights and improving their overall fitness. Benefits include muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, and an awareness of safe methods and unsafe “fads” designed to improve fitness.

Units of Study

Students will be following an instructor developed workout plan. Students will also be able to incorporate off-season and in-season workouts specific to their sport. Programs and lifts for each muscle group will be included. There will also be some conditioning involved periodically. Students are expected to participate in all phases of the program.

Grading Procedures

Class grades will be based on the following criteria:

1.  Dressing Out

2.  Being on time 1st Tardy = -1, 2nd Tardy = -2, 3rd Tardy = -3, etc.

3.  Completion of required strength training

4.  Completion of required conditioning

** Not Dressing Out / Not Participating CAN result in a grade reduction.

1.  Each student will receive 5 points daily for dressing out AND participating

2.  Points will be lost for not being properly dressed out. See Required Clothing.

3.  Points will be lost for not completing any running, and the daily workout.

4.  Points will also be lost for not taking the class SERIOUS. This is a workout class.

-1 pt, B for the day; -2 pts, D for the day; -3 pts up to -5 pts is an F for the day

5.  The first two No Dresses will be a 25 pt (5%) reduction from your FINAL semester grade. Each additional No Dress will result in a 50 pt (10%) reduction from your FINAL semester grade. Students will also have the opportunity to make up only one No Dress per semester by running 25 laps around the gym.

Example: 1st No Dress = 25 pt reduction of semester grade(possibility of make up)

2nd No Dress = 25 pt reduction of semester grade(can not be made up)

Each additional No Dress = 50 pt reduction off of semester grade.

*If zero No Dresses are made up, and no other points are lost, then approx.

1 No Dress = 95% (A)

2 No Dress= 90% (A)

3 No Dress= 80% (B)

4 No Dress=70% (C)

5 No Dress=60% (D)

6 or more No Dress= F

Required Clothing

Students are not allowed to wear their school clothes for that day as their work-out clothes. Points will be deducted for improper dress.

1.  Shorts: Reasonable length, worn on the waist, no cut-offs

2.  Normal T-Shirt(comply with school policy)

3.  Shoes: Tennis shoes with soft sole, NO sandals, flip flops

4.  Other: No gum, food, or drink is allowed during workouts(water is the exception, with lid)

Lockers

Locks and Lockers will be assigned to each student. It is the student’s responsibility not to give out the lock combination to anyone. It is also the student’s responsibility to keep their locker locked at all times. The cost to replace a lost lock is $5.

Classroom Procedures

Students will have 5 minutes after the tardy bell to dress out and report to the designated area for attendance each day, or be counted tardy. If a student is late to roll call, points will be deducted.

Absences

Students will be allowed to make up absences by running 15 laps around the gym. Students will have

1 week to make up the points that they missed due to an absence. After 1 week, a zero will be recorded for the absence. You are allowed to make up 12 absences throughout the semester. This is a workout class, you can not expect to pass the class if you are not here. There will be very few exceptions to this rule.
