I.OPENING OF THE MEETING

A.Call Meeting to Order

The regular meeting of the Kings County Behavioral Health Advisory Board was called to order by theChairperson.

B. Introductions

There was a brief introduction of Board members, staff, and guests.

II.UNSCHEDULED APPEARANCES

Lana Frank from Champions passed out a flyer for the Recovery Festival taking place on September 17, 2016.

III.CHAIRMAN UPDATES

Approval of Minutes

The minutes of April 25, 2016 were presented to the Board for approval. Ken made a motion to accept these minutes and Debra seconded. All were in favor.Pat and Jean abstained.

IV.SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS

The membership committee presented Gloria Rede and Carlos Poblano, as well as Keith Fagundes from the District Attorney’s Office for membership. Ken made a motion to accept these three for membership and Pat seconded. All were in favor.

V.MENTAL HEALTH/SUD/BH UPDATES

Kings Partnership for Prevention (KPFP)

Julie LeFils presented an overview of the strategic prevention statistics for Kings County, which included Geographies of Opportunity and Ranking of Well Being by Congressional District.

Beats, Rhymes and Life (BRL)

Ceth Moore from Behavioral Health and John Gill, Chief Operating Officer of Beats, Rhymes and Life made a presentation on the Innovation Project which uses Rap Therapy with youth. This modality takes culture into consideration along with therapeutic interventions. It was co-created with youth clients and the program consists of half artists and half trained therapists.

Kings County Spirituality and Sister Speak Updates

Ceth Moore and Monique Hall gave an update on the focus of each of these groups, when they meet, etc.

VI.KINGS COUNTY COMMUNITY UPDATES

Ken discussed a program which is being developed between the National Mental Health Board Association and Walgreens to provide additional resources to those who are getting their mental health prescriptions at the store.

VII.KINGS VIEW UPDATE

Kerri Freeman presented an overview of Kings View’s Children’s programs.

VIII.OAK WELLNESS CENTER UPDATGE

Debra discussed the May 25th art show for mental health awareness month where the public is welcome to attend.
