Kathleen Millermoved to approve the minutes. Ellen Warrenseconded and the motion carried.

REPORTS

Membership Committee – Marylu Martin – There are currently three vacancies: two in Adams County and one in Grant County. November’s training will be the AG Grant and Ombuds programs. The membership committee nominated Bill Riley for Chairman and Gwyneth Thorsen for Vice Chairman of the Advisory Committee. Judith Tonseth made a motion to accept the nominations. Linda Finlay seconded, and the motion carried.

Special Projects Committee – Judy Tonseth reported on the success of the Alzheimer’s Walks in Wenatchee and Moses Lake and upcoming planning for 2015. Joan Acres of the Alzheimer’s Association will conduct a workshop called Activities: Planning the day for the Person with Dementia. The workshop will take place at AACCW on January 27, 2015 from 1:30 pm-3:30 pm. There was discussion about a need for training for the Advisory Committee on elder abuse awareness. Diane distributed “Home for the Holidays” flyers. The ad campaign is intended to inform families visiting seniors in the next few months about helpful AACCW services available to their loved ones.

Legislative Committee–Kathleen Miller discussed the recent election results and the Governor’s budgets to include one with no extra funding for a balanced budget and the second with input from the state agencies that allows projection of the governor’s desired outcome.

State Council on Aging-Kathleen Miller distributed information about the 2015 legislative priorities and the White House Conference on Aging. Kathleen Miller advised the group that her second 3-year term will conclude in September, 2015. Ken indicated the legislative committee discussed and is nominating PeggiMoxley for this position and is also looking at other areas where Kathleen could serve. PeggiMoxley, is an attorney specializing in elder law, who has been involved with the Wishmasters program and planning for the recent Guardianship Forum. Ken will invite her to the February meeting.

Quarterly Reports- were reviewed and discussed.

NEW BUSINESS

Monitoring Reports- Jill Dempsey reviewed the monitoring reports completed for the Senior Choice program and In-Home Care of Central Washington.

TRAINING

Jill Dempsey provided information about the AG consumer awareness grant to provide education on the misuse of antipsychotic medication for those with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Shawna Pringle gave an overview of the role of Ombuds and the rights of residents living in long term care facilities.
