1st grade
Science:
Objective: Student will observe and take notes one the growth of a horse and the differences in the parts and appearance of the animal.
Procedure:Teacher will use the overhead pictures of the horse at different stages of life. Students will use the timeline form to fill in information about different areas of horse growth. Students will also refer to the animal parts chart in order to address what parts have changed and how.
Materials: 1) Overhead
2) Pictures for discussion
3) Practice
4) Writing utensils
Preparation:1) Make sure overhead works and that pictures are clear
2) Make own teacher list of changes noticed in comparing the three stages
3) Print out practices
Evaluation:Students should be able to fill in timeline practice with accuracy.

Math:
Objective:Student will create a book detailing the life of a groom. Math questions will relate to feeding a horse, time cleaning stalls, and growth of a horse.
Procedure: Teacher work with the students to arrange practice sheets into book form. Teacher will then facilitate students as they answer math questions. Teacher will do sample page on overhead.

Preparation:1) Print off practices provided by Hall of Fame
2) Make sample book for kids to see
3) Get overhead ready
Evaluation:Practice includes 10 questions. Students should be able to follow directions to assemble book

English/Reading:
Objective: Student will find rhyming words to pair with horse colors. Lesson will culminate in the creation of silly rhyming sentences or poems.
Procedure:Teacher will show the powerpoint on colors of the Quarter Horse. Students will receive pages to be cut out and matched. The student will take the color and play memory looking for the rhyming companion to the color. When all the cards are matched correctly students will write silly rhyming sentences using the words. These sentences could be combined to create poems or just stand alone.

Social Studies:
Objective: Students will become familiar with the history of cowboys and compare them to the cowboys of today.
Procedure:(Lesson can be taught in two ways)
A) Teacher will play the video All About Cowboys. After video, teacher will provide hand out and review video with students. Teacher will facilitate students as they complete review.
or
B) Teacher will cover the terms and history of the cowboy by using the handout. Teacher will then facilitate students while they complete the review.

Fine Art:
Objective: Student will use visual cues and mixed media to produce an art piece.
Procedure:Teacher will present Power Point on Horse’s Head. Teacher will facilitate,ask and answer questions during Power Point. Teacher will pass out supplies and facilitate as students create horse’s head. Teacher will aid students as they weave their yarn into the mane section of the horse.

Preparation: 1) Become familiar with Power Point
2) Gather materials
3) Create a horse head to display for students as an example
