TO ALL DISASTER MENTAL HEALTH PARTNERS

If you are available to deploy for at least 10 days to the disaster relief operation for Hurricane Sandy!! This deployment process is only in effect until the need for DMH volunteers has been filled. When we close the disaster relief operations, you will need to contact your local chapter ( ) and sign up as a DMH volunteer.

Please send the following information to

  • Legal name as it appears on your government-issued ID*
  • Date Of Birth*
  • Gender*
  • Departure date (first wave will go out Thur 11/8 or Fri 11/9)
  • Departure time frame (e.g., Thurs before 10 a.m., any time after 10 a.m. or any time)
  • Departing from (departure airport code – e.g., IAD for Washington Dulles Airport)
  • Length of deployment (must be at least 10 days from the time you arrive – could be longer)
  • Email – we will be using this email to communicate with you and send you your ticket; please type carefully.
  • Phone number – if there are any changes or we need more information, we need to be able to contact you
  • Professional license/certification information:
  • State of issuance
  • Type of license (e.g., psychologist, social worker, school psychologist)
  • License number
  • Time you completed your background check procedure

*This information is required by TSA before we can issue you a plane ticket.

Background check: All Red Cross volunteers must complete a background check. This must be completed before we can assign you to the job and issue you a plane ticket. The process will take no more than two hours once you have entered your information.

Other information:

  • Your license will be verified before you are ticketed to go. However, you must take a copy of your license with you to present to your DMH supervisor on the job.
  • You will be contacted once your information is complete. You will receive a plane ticket as an attachment to the email.
  • Once you arrive at the job, you will be issued a staff card to pay for meals and incidentals. You will be provided with housing while you are on the disaster relief operation.
  • There will be a Foundations of Disaster Mental Health training on Fri evening 11/9. You will be approved to provide services after that training.

Short-term deployment process:This deployment process will be ongoing until the need has been satisfied in the Hurricane Sandy response. If you are interested in becoming a Red Cross volunteer and would like to participate in future responses and work at your local chapte as a DMH volunteer, please go to and find your local chapter.
