Forest Plans for Sierra, Sequoia and Inyo counties were discussed. Teri Faulkner shared information pertaining to elements of the Plans and the webinar she participated on. The FAC members were encouraged to go to the website http:/tinyurl.com/r5comment, as review of existing comments can be informative. Over 10,000 comments, many of them repetitive, are on file. Comments are due by August 25, so a decision at the August 22 FAC meeting will work if there is a desire for the Coordinating Committee to comment. Teri will get in touch with Bob Gage to solicit his feedback. She also recommended studying FERC docs as an example of how a Plan might be structured.
Thad Walker and Doug Teeter shared perspectives on the State Parks OHV Meeting in Sacramento they attended the prior week. The OHMVR program to use OHV “green sticker” money for grants, and administration of the program, is scheduled to sunset in 2018. Much discussion of the merits of combining the two commissions now managing the OHMVR and the Motorcraft/Waterways programs ensued. Consensus amongst the group is that it may not be a good idea to combine them, and especially strong was the expressed desire to continue the OHVMR program past 2018. Supervisor Teeter indicated he would be addressing this issue at the Board meeting on Tuesday, July 26, asking staff to draft a letter to the State Parks asking for a visit to the Board to explain their intentions and the potential impacts to Butte County.
Thad Walker, Chico Velo Trailworks – Update on the Butte County Trails Plan. The Chico Velo Trailworks Foundation has been working to bring together interested stakeholders to identify deficiencies with current trails, discuss ways ofmaintaining, improving, and building capacity for current trails, and outlining goals for future trail development on public lands and perhaps some private lands, as well. They also hope to partnerwith the tourism and recreation industry in Butte County for additional exposure and plan to conduct user surveys, complete a mapped inventory of trails and put in place an MOU with CSUC for assistance with the project.
HR-2647 – Letter of Support: A copy of the Board letter was provided for Information Only. The Board did approve the letter at Tuesday’s Board meeting.
