I. / Course Description:
Through the study of digital and interactive media and its application in information technology, students will analyze and assess current and emerging technologies, while designing and creating multimedia projects that address customer needs and resolve a problem. Students implement personal and interpersonal skills to prepare for a rapidly evolving workplace environment. The knowledge and skills acquired and practiced will enable students to successfully perform and interact in a technology-driven society. Students enhance reading, writing, computing, communication, and reasoning skills and apply them to the information technology environment.
II. / Rationale:
The purpose of this course is for students to learndigital communication skills in the context of graphic layout/design, web design/development and film/video design and production. Students will acquire problem solving, time management and technical know-how by collaborating on digital and interactive multimedia projects, using industry-standard software.In addition, cross-curricular projects willhelp students develop a full range of proficiencies, attitudes and skills essential for success in their academic and professional pursuits.
III. / College Preparation/Credit
This course allows students to explore career optionsin digital and interactive media while building transferable skills needed to acquire industry-standard software certification, excel in higher education and gain practical experience needed to thrive in the global workforce.
Digital and Interactive Media qualifies as 1 technology credit In Socorro I.S.D.
IV. / Course Objectives:
Fall/Spring Semester
- Skills for career development, maintenance of employability, and successful completion of course outcomes.
- Identify employment opportunities in the information technology field with a focus in the area of interactive media.
- Use emerging technologies to exchange and gather information and resources.
- Comply with standard practices and behaviors that meet legal and ethical responsibilities.
- Analyze and apply design and layout principles.
- Design and create digital graphics
- Appropriate use of digital photography equipment and techniques.
- Appropriate use of digital graphics.
- Appropriate use of video equipment and techniques.
- Appropriate use of audio equipment and techniques.
- Appropriate use of animation.
- Appropriate project management in the creation of digital media projects.
- Deploy digital media into print, web-based, and video products.
V. / Grading Policy
It shall be the student’s responsibility to seek the opportunity to redo an assignment or test for which he/she received a failing grade within five (5) school days upon which he/she received notification of a failing grade.
The grade earned when redoing an assignment or test shall be averaged with the grade earned on the first attempt, and the averaged grade shall replace the failing grade.
Students shall be given one opportunity to redo a failed assignment or test. Student will have one day for each day absent (excused) to make up work missed; or as agreed by student and teacher.
Grades for each reporting period shall be determined by a combination of daily grades (50%), Tests/Projects (30%) and a nine week exam (20%) relating to the TEKS.
Grades shall not be reduced for non-instructional reasons except in the case of academic dishonesty or late assignments.
VI. / Student Conduct in Class Policy
- Be prepared to work when tardy bell rings.
- Follow all district and campus policies.
- Follow directions and instructions.
- Food or drinks are not allowed in the classroom; this is against district and school policy. It is especially hazardous to the computers. Gum chewing is allowed as long as it is not found on or under the desks and no bubble popping.
- No cussing, swearing, being rude, etc. will be allowed at any time in the classroom. Please respect yourself and the others around you.
- Take care of the room and the computer equipment.

- 1st consequence—verbal warning
- 2nd consequence—student/teacher conference
- 3rd consequence—parent notified/detention
- 4th consequence—parent/student/teacher conference
- 5th consequence—office referral
- Severe clause—office referral/escort to assistant principal immediately
All cell phones must be turned off inside the building. All other devices, IPods, etc. will be brought at your own risk (not to be used in the classroom unless needed for an assignment). Montwood High School is not responsible for lost or stolen items as per the Student Code of Conduct. Cell phones and IPods will be confiscated and turned in to the office.
