Parking:Otley has a number of public car parks (all of which are free on Sundays) as well as on-street parking in the main Street (Kirkgate) just to the south west of the Market Square.

The following car parks are all within 400m of the Assembly Area and Registration:

  • Westgate or Beech Hill Car Parks (if arriving from the west)
  • Courthouse or North Parade Car parks (if arriving from east or north)
  • Burras Lane (opposite Church) or Sainsburys (max. stay 4 hours) car parks (from south)

Facilities:Public toilets (20p charge) available at Orchard Gate (next to Bus Station), 200m from Market Square Bags and clothing may be left at the Assembly Area

If you are new to Urban orienteering please take time to study the map, noting all the areas where you must not go. In particular, note that any area shown on the map as purple, olive green or dark blue is not to be entered. Purple hatching shows out of bounds areas. Thick black lines MUST NOT BE CROSSED.

ControlsSI electronic punching is being used. Expect to find some of the SI boxes on stakes and some attached via gripples to the control feature, along with the standard kite

Adults may enter any course although to be competitive in the YHOA urban league you need to enter the course shown above for your age.

M/W 16 & under will only be allowed on course D for safety reasons.

Newcomers can run in pairs and parents can run with children

Courses C and Dwill use a time-out at a road crossing which may be busy. There will be a control on either side of the road. Once you have punched follow the marshals’ instructions to cross – do not rush, the crossing is untimed. Your race resumes when you punch the control on the other side. Course D will use this crossing twice, once in each direction.

SafetyAll competitors should be aware that this is urban orienteering and as such are advised to take extreme care when crossing all roads and when running around blind corners.

Be aware of traffic and show consideration to pedestrians

Be aware that some surfaces may be slippery.

It is a standard condition of British Orienteering events that participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety.

If traveling alone, please leave car keys at registration.
