Five Steps to a Successful Tour Experience!
Register as early as possible, so your team members can join your team and start fundraising to help the American Diabetes Association Stop Diabetes®. These steps will take you from developing your plan to saying “Thank You!”
Step 1: Plan!
At least 6-8 monthsbefore Tour Day
- Meet with your ADA representative to develop your recruitment and fundraising action plan.
- Recruit a co-captain and an internal company executive sponsor to help with your team.
- Set a team member goal and a dollar goal — the national average is $445 per team member to use as a guideline.
Step 1: Prepare!
At least4-6 monthsbefore Tour Day
- Register your team at to start recruiting and fundraising!
- Schedule an internal team kickoff at your workplace to inform everyone about the team effort and recruit new members. If colleagues don’t ride they can volunteer and/or donate to team members.
Step 2: Inspire!
At least3-months beforefrom Tour Day
- Recruit a Red Rider (person with type 1 or type 2 diabetes) to help inspire your team!
- Encourage team members to become a Champion to Stop Diabetes by raising $1,000 or more! Lead by example and set your personal fundraising goal at $1,000.
- Put up Tour posters and place Tour brochures in high-traffic areas with the invitation to the internal company kickoff date.
- Use email, social media, voicemail, memos and bulletin boards to encourage registration.
- Hold the internal team kickoff at your office to increase excitement and support!
Step 3: Fundraise!
At least 2-months beforeTour Day
- Encourage each team memberto send out emails to their donors. Riders who raise funds online tend to raise 4-6 times more than those who don’t!
- Highlight top fundraisers. Recognize any Champions to Stop Diabetes or Red Riders.
- Schedule a team training ride or bike prep clinic to get everyone ready to ride
Step 4: The Final Push
1-month before Tour Day
- Send last-minute reminders by email, social media, voicemail,memos or flyers.
- Turn in any offline donations such as cash or checks to your local ADA office.
- Arrange for t-shirts, banners or signs to promote your team on Tour Day.
- Send out a reminder with the event date, time and location; include directions, the weather report, reminder to bring yourcollection envelope and highlights of day of event activities.
Step 5: Thank You
Within 1 week after Tour Day
- Thank your donors and remind your team members to do the same!
- Share photos of the Tour andsend thank you notes to your team members. Send handwritten notes to all Champions and Red Riders who participated on your team.
- Praise the team in your company newsletter, or send a press release to your local paper.
