Job Purpose
· To assist in the provision of a comprehensive service for the control of public health pests and non public health pests in accordance with the Council’s statutory duties and policies.
· Delivery of an effective and appropriate service to all service users, fairly and without discrimination.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. / To assist in the provision of a reactive and proactive service for the control of public health and non public health pests in accordance with Council policy, procedures and to meet performance targets.
2. / Maintain accurate records of visits; this will include details of conditions found; treatment that was provided and further control measures that are required etc.
3. / To collect monies and issue receipts in respect of pest control treatments for which there is a charge levied by the Council and liaise with the Administrative Support Officer(s) in respect of re-chargeable works.
4. / To assist in the planned programme of sewer treatments in accordance with the agreement with Severn Trent Water and make recommendations on any remedial work considered necessary.
5. / Liaise with and provide assistance to the appropriate Environmental Health Officers / Technicians where necessary, e.g. drainage defects, food premises and infestations etc.
6. / Survey and quote for, and develop and maintain, pest control contracts in a wide range of premises.
7. / Assist in the purchase of pesticides and equipment by recommending amount and type of product, having regard to service needs, efficacy and value for money and ensure their satisfactory storage. Maintain accurate records of pesticides and pesticide waste.
8. / To assist in the updating and revision of pest control information sheets and provide advice to service users on a range of species where treatment is inappropriate.
9. / Where requested, provide training on pest control practices to relevant personnel, e.g., student EHO’s, work experience placements etc.
10. / To organise their daily workload in an efficient manner and ensure that their vehicle is suitably stocked and that they carry out checks of their vehicle in accordance with internal procedures.
11. / Where offences are witnessed, enforce dog fouling, dog ban and dog on lead orders and issue fixed penalty notices on designated land, where appropriate.
