Dear Parents/Guardians of an incoming Northwood 6th grade student:
Welcome to Northwood Middle School! Sixth graders, mark your calendars for Wednesday, August 23, 2017. Northwood staff and 8th grade WEB leaders will be holding 6th grade Where Everyone Belongs orientation from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The First Student school busses will be running their regular routes on WEB orientation day. The bus routes will be posted on the Elyria Schools website (see above) by mid-August. Or parents may call the bus garage 284-8034 in August. Incoming 6th grade students will come to Northwood without their parents from 8:00 until 12:00. Parents are invited to join us at noon in the cafeteria for lunch. The students will be participating in several fun physical activities so they should dress comfortably (no sandals or flip flops). Do not bring personal belongings, as we will be moving around all over the school and things can be left behind if not attached to you. We are proud of this program and feel it is a great way for the students to learn about 6th grade and Northwood before the first day of school on September 5th.
In May, 6th graders will have the opportunity to take a fabulous field trip to Put-in-Bay. This winter, you will have the opportunity to fundraise for your student’s trip. More details to come.
If your student will be taking medication during the school day (this includes inhalers, epipens, etc.) we must have a medication request form filled out and signed by the doctor and parent, on file with the nurse. By state law, school personnel are NOT PERMITTED to dispense any prescription medication, without a doctor’s order on file. If your child may need over the counter medications, there is a form to be filled out and signed by the parent and you will provide the medication to be kept at school. We have these forms available in the school office.
The first day of school is Tuesday, September 5th. Bus schedules will be posted on the Elyria Schools website in August. We are looking forward to an excellent 2017 - 2018 school year!
