Transportation and Subsistence Allowance for Training Outside Commuting Area
Complete this section if training is located outside your commuting area, defined as over 40 miles from your home.Transportation allowance shall not exceed the lesser of the actual cost for travel by the least expensive means of transportation reasonably available between your home and the training facility or the cost per mile at the prevailing mileage rate authorized under the federal travel regulations. Allowable travel includes travel at the beginning and end of the training program and for daily commuting, in lieu of subsistence allowance, but not exceeding the amount otherwise payable as subsistence for each day of commuting. [See mileage reimbursement rates.] Do not claim if group transportation paid for by the Connecticut Department of Labor has been arranged for you, or if traveling as a passenger with another individual who is incurring transportation expenses. Transportation allowance is not payable for trips home during training periods that permit payment of subsistence allowance, such as weekends; subsistence allowance is payable only for full and partial days spent outside your commuting area.
Subsistence allowance shall not exceed the lesser of your actual daily subsistence expenses while participating in training outside the commuting area or 50 percent of the prevailing per diem rate authorized under the federal travel regulations for the locale of the training. [See diem rates.] Subsistence includes lodging, meals for yourself (include taxes and tips; exclude alcoholic beverages and entertainment expenses) and related incidental expenses such as fees and tips for porters, bellhops and hotel maids.
