1 Pet 3:1-22; Jn 14:1-14

Key verses: “15But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answerto everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hopethat you have. Sermon Notes for

“Trains Together & Shares the Gospel:

Family Habits, Part 2”

Last Week’s focus: We Welcome All and Worship God.

Recap of Background:

·  Human beings cannot not welcome, worship, train, and share, because we’re made in the image of God.

·  The Christian Character of these Practices come from the Motives, Manner, and People involved.

Our Vision: All Saints' Anglican Cathedral invites all to grow together in the way of Jesus, developing fruitful disciples, establishing missional communities throughout Amesbury, the Merrimack Valley, and New England.

Our Mission: We’re a Family on Mission that:

·  Welcomes All

·  Worships God

·  Trains Together And

·  Shares the Gospel

In the Way of Jesus

1) We Train Together in the Way of Jesus:

·  “Workout/Practice” = Developing “routine” capacity to recognize and be ready for Kairos/Opportunities.

·  “Game-time/Performance” = a Kairos/Opportunity to seek & pursue the Peace of the Kingdom for/with another

·  “Win/Point” = We Grow Together in the Way of Jesus

2) We Share the Gospel in the Way of Jesus

·  Sharing Gospel/Good-News is mainly about joining what God is doing in someone’s life, so that they can experience God loving them through us

·  “Evangelism” happens whenever (thank Ed Stetzer for

·  a Misperception is Clarified this definition)

·  a Rejection is Reconsidered

·  “And Greater Works than These”—John 14:12 à we’re supposed to become able to Proclaim, Heal, and Deliver as Jesus did

Challenge and Invitation:

·  We can’t “Play” well if we don’t Practice Together

o  Who are your Training Companions?

·  We can’t Share well what we haven’t Experienced

o  How are you Experiencing the Gospel of the Kingdom?

Home Group Questions

Connecting with Each Other

  1. What kinds of Training have you done in your life—sports, music, career, etc?
  2. What’s one of your favorite topics to talk about with other people—movies, books, cars, current events, gardening…?

Connecting with God’s Word

  1. As you reflect on last weekend’s sermon, what one idea or illustration stands out as being particularly helpful, insightful, or difficult to grasp?
  1. As you reflect on the scriptures appointed for this week, where do you see the dynamics of welcome and worship being described, implied, illustrated, or commanded?

Connecting with the Week Ahead

  1. How might you be a “doer” not just a “hearer” of something we reflected on together?
  2. “We can’t “Play” well if we don’t Practice Together.” Are there ways our home group could go deeper? Would you consider committing to a Training Group next season (Fall)?
  3. “We can’t Share well what we haven’t Experienced.” How are you Experiencing the Gospel of the Kingdom? Have you tried to express that in words to someone else? Are there ways that what you share with others in your actions have been shaped by what you’ve experienced?
