We have been really busy at FK-8 with many activities. Athletics has been excellent with all of our teams making it to the second round as of this date. We currently have 87 students participating with a very high percentage of them remaining eligible. This is really a good thing as it keeps our upper level kids involved as well as advancing our school spirit.

We had a super concert by the 4th grade. Mrs. Meshew does an absolute fabulous job with the kids incorporating movements, speaking parts and integrating the curriculum. The entire concert was devoted to Arizona’s 100th birthday.

Our 6th grade trip to San Diego was a success as we had 43 students attend and they learned a great deal about the ocean and its inhabitants. Our 3rd grade went as a grade to Tempe Center of the Arts and saw a musical/play about the presidency. It was outstanding.

Our younger grades are in the process of completing their Student Treasures which are yearbook type books produced by the students that parents buy to have as a keepsake of their younger years. It has always been a great success and again it is headed up by Dr. Marla Nelson. She does a fabulous job with it and it is a great deal of work.

Our PTO is in the process of planning our annual Carnival. We have set the date as April 20th so please mark down that date. It has always been a great time and we expect to have many people. The PTO will also help us greatly with upcoming AIMS as they volunteer to keep our school quiet. The PTO is supremely supportive of our school doing biweekly popcorn/pickle Friday, helping with the book fair, setting up the Christmas Store and supplying dinner for our teachers at Conferences. The book fair is this week and we usually have great participation from our parents coming in and buying books for the students. I’ll give a total the next board report on how many did actually come in to buy books.

Speaking of conferences we had very successful conferences in relation to the amount of parents that were contacted and attended. We had 345 out of 434 students parents attend in our K-5 level or 79%.

At the upper levels we were able to have 81parents come in and speak which is a very high number of that age group. Teachers were very pleased with the turnout.

Initially, we have had a relative high number of upcoming kindergarten sign ups. We have 31 supplemental full day and 4 half day. We usually do not get people coming in for kindergarten sign up until late in the spring or June.

We are preparing for the 3rd benchmarks next week. From those results and utilizing BT we have discussed plans with every teaching group for the upcoming AIMS and what they will be studying until that time.

Florence High Staff came over with Mr. Knutsen to fire up our 8th graders explaining the process of high school and preparing them for sign ups. They then held a sign up for the parents and students the next week. After that we had CAC come in talking to our 8th graders about Promise for the Future trying to get kids on that path to college.

Before the end of the month and vacation we have many trips planned, several concerts and Bingo night. The dates are on the board report and we hope you can attend any of them. Go Gophers!
