Important Dates and Information from the L.E.A.P.S. meeting, Oct. 12, 2006:

Calendar of Events:

Fundraiser: Candle Sale brochures will be available on Monday, October 16th in Mrs. Boak’s room. This sale will be used to fund our donations to charities, traveling expenses, the Food Drive pizza party, and hopefully a party at Mrs. Boak’s sometime this school year.

Oct: Open House– Bake Sale and Raffle for Yellow Ribbon Girls (overseas soldiers). Sign up sheet for baked goods in my room. Sign up ASAP!

Foster Care/Human Services suitcase campaign (more information will be reported by Mrs. Boak at our next meeting)

Nov: Adopt-An-Elder program; Mix it Up campaign for lunch periods 1 and 3; food drive for NeCa Mission (pizza party for shop that collects the most, on LEAPS)

NCCY table for LEAPS scheduled for November 4th. Volunteers to work table will be needed for this event. Need game/activity for kids ages 12-15. Suggestion? Henna tattoos and M&M jar for prize (kid who guesses the correct/closest am’t, wins the jar).. See Mrs. Boak if you have any other possible ideas.

Dec: Angel Tree for Women’s Crisis Center (presents for the kids at the shelter and basket of needed items like diaper ointment, etc.); winter coat collection: local or Project Bundle-Up telethon participation

Jan: Shoes for Orphans Souls: (worldwide charity)

Feb: Black History Month: Display in showcase for outreach organizations: S.T.A.N.D.; Children of Darfur; Global Impact (also information on how students can become involved)

March: Books for the Barrios (children’s books collection)

April: Beautification Project for LCCTC lawn; Plant-A-Tree in Israel (children’s forest for Holocaust victims)

May: Seed packet collection for victims of Hurricane Katrina

Other issues covered that will revisited at next meeting:

Election of club officers

Publicity team for making posters, banners, advertisements, etc. will be needed for table exhibits, showcase exhibits, collections, photographs of events in which we participate, and the like. If this sounds like something that you could creatively wrap your head around, let me know! Thanks.
