Homework week of February 6th, 2017

  1. Your child is bringing 3-4French books to read at home each week. This book may come home more than once it is important that your child reads it and rereads italoud more than one night. Your child also needs to retell the story in French. Please fill in the passport sheet by including the title of the books your child has read and sign or initial on the line. Only write the same title of the book once on the reading log sheet. Once one side of the sheet is filled, your child will earn a big sticker towards our virtual trip to Mexico.
  1. Your child needs to read a few pages in the vocabulary section in their blue binder. The more words they know, the easier it is for him/her to respond to questions in French and recognize these words while reading.
  1. Please practice addition and subtraction Math facts.
  1. Please sign your child’s Show What You Know duo tang ( Tell time test, subtraction test & oral assessment)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

-We have completed our unit on Staying Healthy. We will celebrate our gains on Wednesday. February 8th. My students will read their book to a friend in the other grade 3 FI class then we will do some yoga poses. The students need to dress appropriately to participate in our yoga activity on February 8th.

-We will have a small Valentine party on Tuesday, February 14 in the afternoon. The school will provide a fruit tray. If you would like to send a nutritious snack for our party, please let me know. If your child wants to give Valentine cards to his/her friends make sure that each child in the classroom gets a card. I sent the class list on Monday. I am encouraging the students to wear red, pink or purple on Valentine’s Day.

-We will be going skating on Tuesday February 14 and February 28 from 9:00 to 9:40. (The students need to wear skates (no boots) and helmets on the ice. Please let me know as soon as possible, if your child does not have skates or a helmet so I can try and find the necessary equipment at school.)

-Sock Hop on February 10 ($2.00)

-February 22nd, Pancake Breakfast for grades 3-5.

This week in language arts, we will begin our new Science unit: Les Structures. We will also learn the vocabulary pertaining to Valentine’s Day. The students are learning new sentences structures and vocabulary pertaining to this theme.

Qu’est-ce que tu vois à la Saint-Valentin? A la Saint-Valentin, je vois des cœurs rouges. Qu’est-ce que tu fais à la Saint-Valentin? A la Saint-Valentin, je donne des cartes à mes amis. Quelles formes vois-tu à l’école? Je vois des carrés sur le plancher. Quelles structures vois-tu? Je vois une école. L’école est large. Your child should be able to respond to basic routine questions and questions about the themes learned thus far. He /she needs to be able to recognize sounds and sight words. The sight words this week are: nouveau, nouvelle, une structure, flexible, durable, stable, solide.The students need to put into practice reading strategies that we have been working on. The students should be able to write personal responses to a book they have read and at least 4 simple sentences related to our themes. They need to use convention (proper use of punctuation and uppercase letters as well as write sight words correctly).

In Math, they are learning recognize numbers to 1000, skip counting by 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 and 25 from a given number and rounding off to the nearest tenth and hundredth.They are also learning to tell time on an analog clock. We are subtracting using the number chart and number line and 10 frames as well as a multiple of 10:(35-18: 35-20=15+2=17). We are also working on 2-D and

3-D objects. It is increasingly important that your child knows their math facts. It is increasingly important that your child knows their math facts.
