State Cup 23rd 24th 25th Sept 2011.

I think we are all looking forward to the challenge of competing in the 2011 State Cup. All teams will need a bag of 4 balls for the tournament. Your team number is on the notice board. You have to use the corresponding ball bag number.

Grand Finals:

All the round robin matches are on Friday and Saturday. All the Grand Finals are on Sunday as per the program. Please check your draw carefully.

If you are involved in the presentations you must be in your volleyball uniform. – NO EXCEPTIONS.

BIG TEAM:
Please support all our Heathfield teams. It makes it fun for everybody. Last year in Melbourne it was awesome.

Uniforms:

You are expected to be in uniform. This includes the badges. Please check your team numbers are not duplicated. There is good stock of all uniform items. Parents are welcome to be part of our team in uniform.

Match Times:

Players are expected to be at the venue 45 minutes before their matches for a team meeting. You must be at the court 15 minutes before you have a duty.

The Gymnasium:

Players are not permitted to leave any of the gymnasium areas without their coach/managers permission. You are advised to take your lunches. Please eat athlete’s food, not junk that may taste good but will not fuel you. The exception will be Mt Lofty where our parents and players will run a great canteen at the gym with fantastic food.

Duty:

Duties must be shared and done well. Coaches or senior players are expected to do the top refereeing. Coaches MUST do a duty roster and MUST ensure duties are shared equitably. Remember only Level 2 referees or “Honour Referees” will be permitted to referee honour divisions in Melbourne. All players are expected to be able to score on an international score sheet.

Transport:

Transport to venues on Friday will be by buses. A bus roster to take kids down is listed on the ready reckoner. On Saturday and Sunday players have to be taken and returned from matches by parents.

AVF & Volleyball SA members
All players playing in the State Cup have to be members of the Australian Volleyball Federation. If you are, you should have a current membership card. If you are not currently registered you are not permitted to play in State Cup or the Nationals. We have to have your membership number on your team sheets.
This is your responsibility—please attend to it now.

QUIZ NIGHT – Friday 28th October

Please encourage your child to be involved in the Quiz night as there is at least $100 to be made. It is a great night and your child gets to keep what your table puts in. Table tickets are available from Chloe. We have over 50 tables booked.

Melbourne — National Schools Cup:

We will travel in a record number of 6 48 seater coaches and the school mini bus. We will leave Heathfield High School Saturday morning 3rd December and will arrive at Ormond college at 4.00pm. We will settle into our rooms then go to Lygon Street for tea.

On Sunday morning (early) we will go to the Sports and Aquatic Centre and train for an hour (12 courts booked.) After training we will go to the Melbourne markets till midday and then we will go to the supermarket to stock up for nibbles and lunches for the week. We will then shower and get ready for the opening ceremony. After the opening ceremony we will then go back to the college have tea, a squad meeting, a team meeting and then an early night.

Each day buses will leave for the gym on the hour. They will return on the half hour. There will be a spare bus (s) during the day to take teams on excursions when worked out with the Tour Manager Davo.

Players and Parents Handbook:

Early term 4 all players will be issued with a handbook for the National Schools Cup. This will contain all the information for players and parents on the trip. You will be asked to return the medical consent note required by the school for interstate excursions. This is extensive and is in the back of the handbook.

National Schools Cup Payments:

You should have received an invoice for the National Schools Cup in May giving you time to make periodic payments. The cost has been finalised at $835.00

Parents:
There must be about 100 parents who have told me that they are going to Melbourne to see us play. This is fantastic as it happens every year and we appreciate your interest and support. Please also consider yourselves invited to our great end of tournament meeting at Ormond College. This will start around 8.00pm. All parents are welcome.

Trainings:

Training times are on the volleyball noticeboards and on the school volleyball website

http://www.hhs.sa.edu.au/siv/index.htm

Please be aware that team trainings are compulsory. Girls must inform Eldo and Boys must inform Stuart if you cannot attend training before the training. If you miss trainings you may be removed from your team and the squad.

We are only interested in you if you are serious. It is not fair to have teams mates held back by slack players.. Each of the last 2 years we have removed players who have not been able to “commit the time and effort” to YOUR team and the squad. We are certainly prepared to do this again.

Ladies and Gentlemen – We are going to the Nationals to defend out national title. Get fired up………………………..

We would love to have you there with us.
But only if you can work as hard as we are going to.

73 days to Melbourne

State Beach Volleyball Teams:

The State Junior Beach volleyball team program will be the best ever this year. There are state, national and international events on the program this season. Mr Scott and I would love to see many more players involved as it is great fun and the skills learnt on the beach always make indoor players play much better.

There will be a program of beach volleyball events all over the State with events programmed on our own Mountain Beach courts.

The South Australian state teams will be selected for Under 17’s, 19’s and 23’ age groups. More information is on the Volleyball SA website: www.volleyballsa.com.au

Lofty Senior players Presentation Night:

The Mt Lofty senior player’s presentation night for League, League Reserve and Division 1 teams is on Friday 30th September at the Mt Lofty Football clubrooms. Please let your coach know if you are attending as we have to let the caterers know numbers. Remember your club membership fee includes a $25.00 discount to the night.

Burn off 600 calories:

The Mt Lofty Volleyball Club is holding 2 short seven (7) week beach competitions when it starts to warm up. There will one competition before Christmas starting at the end of October and another one starting in late January – early February. You can enter teams as a team of 4 or as a pair if you are hot. We will have a Monday night and Thursday night competition with two grades (A Grade and Social) available. Our first competition earlier this year was a huge success under the new lights. The canteen will be available with fantastic coffee and a range of drinks and toasted sandwiches after the game.

Nomination forms will be available from shops around the district and from school. Forms will also be available from the Mt Lofty web site at www.mtloftyvolleyball.com.au

State Junior League:

Congratulations to the teams that made the State Junior League finals. Out of our 23 teams we had 19 make the finals with our boy’s teams winning the top 4 premierships.

Under 19 Division 1 Boys (Patrick Rogers)

Under 19 Division 2 Boys (Clifford Sayer)

Under 19 Division 4 Boys (Brodie McDougall)

Under 15 Boys Division 2 (Jade & Annabelle)

Our Junior League presentation night is on Sunday October 30th at the Mountain Beach courts from 6.00pm – 7.00pm. Drinks and a sausage sizzle will be available for all FREE and the team’s coaches awards will be presented your teams coach.

We are going to have the WORLD’S first parent / player big ball beach volleyball competition on the night with quick 10 minute matches (4 per team) This will be organised on the night with Bubba’s Pizza vouches for the winning families. It will be a hoot. We will all be ready to go home at 7.00pm sharp.

State Cup Canteen:

The Mt Lofty volleyball club own and operate the Canteen at the sports centre. As all junior league players have to play in Mt Lofty Volleyball Club uniforms (not Heathfield ones) next year all the proceeds from the canteen during the State Cup weekend will go to help decrease players costs for these new playing tops. The club is currently negotiating with a uniform sponsor to keep these costs down and certainly the profits from the canteen will help.

You can help by offering to bring along a loaf of ham and cheese sandwiches that can be toasted, a cake or a slab of Coke, Coke Zero, Fanta, Sprite or Lift for us to sell.

If you are available to help in the canteen for a couple of hours on either the Friday, Saturday or Sunday, that would also be appreciated. Please fill in the attached form.
