Dear Students and Parents/Guardians:

Welcome back to Thomas G. Pullen Academy for the 2014-2015 school year. We extend a warm welcome to all and a special welcome to our new students as you join us this year.

As summer quickly draws to its end, I trust that you are well rested and ready to resume your studies for transition to the next grade. Our entire staff is anxious to help make this year educationally profitable for you.

While some changes have taken place over the summer months, one thing has remained constant, our commitment to success. Expecting the best from all students in and out of the classroom is paramount to our quest for quality education for every student. Our quest can only be realized through a working spirit of mutual respect and cooperation from students, teachers, parents andadministration. As we strive for success for all our students, we look forward to our continued partnership with home, school and community.

In preparing for the new school year, there are few important facts to remember. Please take note of the following:

SCHOOL BEGINS Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Elementary students (K-5) will report to the Multipurpose Room and Middle school students (6-8) will report to the Gym. You will receive additional instructions from the teachers on duty.

SCHOOL HOURS are 9:15 A.M. to 3:55 P.M.

KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 10:00 A.M.

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT ORIENTATION IS FOR NEW STUDENTS TO THOMAS PULLEN AND STUDENTS TRANSITIONING TO THE 6TH GRADE. The Middle School Orientation will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014, from 9:15 A.M. to 3:55 P.M. Transportation will be provided. You will receive a letter in the mail from Prince George’s County Public Schools’ Transportation Department regarding your child’s bus stop.

BUS SCHEDULES will be mailed to you by the Prince George’s County Public Schools’ Transportation Department. Bus information is available by visiting go to Parents (3rd tab in the blue bar), drop down menu and click bus stop search and follow instructions on the page. Please review the A.M. and P.M. bus numbers with your child.

SCHOOL MEALS are provided for the breakfast and lunch. Students may bring their lunch to school if so desired. The costs of meals are: Breakfast -$1.50, Lunch-$2.60, Milk-$.55. Each student will receive a PIN number at the beginning of the year. This PIN is the same account number for breakfast and lunch. Parents may submit funds to student accounts up to $99.99 one of two ways: prepay for students meals on-line by visiting depositing funds into students account by visiting the cafeteria staff.

Students who were eligible for free or reduced meals during the 2013-2014 school year will be eligible for the same plan until September 30, 2014. To continue with the free or reduced meal plan for the 2014-2014 school year, a new application must be completed and submitted for approval no later than October 1, 2014.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 6:30 P.M. for grades K-5 and Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 6:30 P.M. for grades 6-8.

The staff is happy to have you and your child as part of the Thomas G. Pullen K-8 Arts Academy family, and hope that we can successfully work together to meet their educational needs.
