North West Leicestershire District Council scoops national Urban Design Award

North West Leicestershire District Council has been awarded a prestigious design award for its ourplace™ urban design initiative. The awards, which took place in London this month, were the Urban Design Group’s first large-scale awards event.

North West Leicestershire District Council was one of six local authorities short-listed for the ‘Public Sector’ award, with the Council competing against Buckinghamshire Borough Council, the City of London, Gloucester City Council, London Borough of Barking & Dagenham and South Derbyshire District Council.

The Council was announced as the overall winner for its ourplace™ urban design initiative which seeks to encourage and inspire people to create and expect well designed buildings and spaces. The scheme includes a new and innovative quality rating scheme for new homes.

Councillor Blunt, Leader of North West Leicestershire District Council and Design Ambassador, said:

“I am delighted we have received national recognition for the work we have been doing on driving up the standards of development within the District. The award reflects a considerable amount of time and effort put into schemes by our officers, developers and members of our Planning Committee.

“We’re now also starting to see the first schemes that reflect our aspirations being completed or nearing completion. We really hope that these flagship schemes will set a new benchmark for quality within the District and act as a source of inspiration.”
