Clinical Placements for Pediatrics Fall 09 Q 1

As of today, I am still waiting on the confirmation of the LGH clinical which has been changed from Tues 7-7 to Mon 7-2 Tues 7-4. There is only one NSCH group instead of two and New England Pediatrics, with Professor Ruggiero has been added as below. A second Beverly group was added. Children’s Hospital was added for quarter 1 only.

If your name does not appear below it means I do not have a placement request from you. I need that filled out for your contact info but at this point you will be assigned according to what is open. You should contact me immediately.

The syllabus is changing somewhat. The text has also changed, much to my dismay. When I visited your class in the spring and told you it would be the same book, I had no idea they were changing the edition and the book we had been using would no longer be available !!!!!!! If you have purchased the red 2006 edition already, I think you can probably still use that. I have just received my copy of the new (green) Second Edition, 2010 and have not yet reviewed it. I would expect the page numbers may vary slightly but if the assigned topics are covered, that should be fine. The new reading list will be in the revised syllabus and all will be available on web ct 2 weeks before the start of class. That should be Wed, Aug 19th. For those of you who want to get ahead, you can refer to the NEW COURSE CALENDAR which will be on the web site in the next couple of days.

You will also be asked to sign up for a 2 hr. Sim Lab session. This will be available the first day of class. One of the first sessions will be on Friday 9/4 in the morning. That is the only session time which is confirmed so far.

You will be contacted by your clinical instructor for details regarding the clinical. There is some info on the website but since it is last years, it may be subject to change. However, most info regarding the facilities is still the same. There isn’t anything available for the new rotation at NE Peds with Professor Ruggiero so she will be contacting you directly.

All the course content needs to be moved to Web Ct from the website. Be aware that you are the first class to use this course on Web Ct so I ask for your patience with the anticipated glitches which will no doubt arise. All info on the website is considered old content unless specified for Fall 09. www.salemstate.edu/~dhills For example, the clinical grid will be loaded for Fall 09 but you need to check the dates of documents carefully in this transitions.
