A story in words and music about immigration in the U.S.

Immigration songs is a riveting story in words and music. The music of the show has many expressions ranging from sadness to joy, from storm to stillness. Vocals, violin and guitar was an authentic setting, used when the first settlers came to America. Seen through songs, anecdotes and historical references, we tell the story of immigration in America from the 17th century and on. It is the story of thousands of Europeans who were looking to realize their dreams of a better life in America, it’s also the story ofthe world they had left and what they found in the new world. The settlers were mostly trying to escape terrible poverty and a life full of hardship and misery. Travelling to America, they were tested once more as only the strongest survived the boat trip. On the other side of the Atlantic new communities and churches were established, while the music flourished. Hymns, new religious music and folk songs dating back to the middle ages were in use, side by side. Immigration songs present us with a situation which also today, is familiar to us: immigration as a way to escape poverty.
